Just to share info. My dealer actually saved me $5K ~ $6.5K considering excessive mileage cost, repair cost, out-warranty-maintenance cost on current lease.
2010 S4 (P+/ADS) MSPR $55900 - $1200 fee, $0 down, 10K/Yr, $730x36 (w/ Tax), 17 payments left, 38000 miles (estimated excessive mileage cost $4500 at $.15/mile)
condition: Keyed scratches on 2 doors and hood (total 60" long), scratch on bumper 10" long, brake pads due ($616 cost), windshield crack 2"
2012 S4 (P+/SRD) MSRP $54625 - $0 fee, $0 down, 12K/Yr, $800x42 (w/ Tax), Audi Care

He got to walk away for free and get into a new one for only $800 per month. I would say that is a good deal for sure. My dealer would no way work a deal that well.

How can you say he walked away for "free" when he paid $4500 for excessive mileage that didn't yet exist? If the point was that he was going to put those miles on the 2010 by the end of the lease (ie, that he is going to continue driving 2k mi/month) then all he did is pay a fee to get out of his old car and will likely be subject to an additional excessive mileage fee on the new car when he goes way over the 10k mi allotment. Maybe thats not the case, but then I dont understand why it would be necessary to pay such a significant excess mileage fee?

If i continue to add mileage (at similar rate as I've done in past 1.5 years) to 2010 S4 for 17 months or about 1.5 years, I might end up total 68K miles.
Then excessive mileage will be 38K miles. The charge will be:
$0.15/mile for 30000x0.15 +8000x0.25 = $6500 (if buy mileage before lease-end, max miles allowed to buy is 30K), OR
$0.25/mile for 38000x0.25 = $9500 (pay at lease end).
Assuming, I will drive "ONLY" 30K miles in the next 1.5 years. Buy 30K miles before lease-end, it'll be $4500.

NOTE: If you have a leased S4 in good condition (say less than 30K miles and no paint damages - not mine), you may jump into a new lease and lower lease payment. My guessing is that the dealers may make more profit on used good S4 than new ones. My new deal is in fact getting a new car (no need to replace brake pads in 2 weeks, fix scratches, carry later out-warranty maintenance costs, worry about adding mileage in the next 1.5 years) but add only $75 to current monthly $730 and increase mileage allowance from 10K to 12K/yr. ** The short sides are : (1) 42mon lease - guess I'll jump into new lease before it ends. (2) Not face-lifted 2013 S4 ** With such poor body condition and such high mileage of my out-going S4, really appreciate the dealer's help. -- the dealer originally quoted: $2000down, $??? doc fee, 10K/yr, $755+Tax (= $813), w/o Audi Care, we cut a new deal after 2 phone calls. P/S: Audi & BMW reps both told me 1 thing : 2 years into a 3-yr lease is right time to jump out for a new car/lease at lowest cost.

Gotcha. I guess why I was asking is because I was having trouble wrapping my head around why you would pay for miles that you havent used, on a lease that you are terminating. Wont you now be in the same boat in 17 months (or less) on your new lease?

For example if you kept your old car, in August 2014 you would turn it in and owe $4500 in excess mileage fees. At this point you lease your new car and have a 36,000mi balance to go through before you have get into the excess mileage penalty. However, because you traded in now, in August 2014 your mile balance will be depleted to zero, and you will either have to pay another $4500 (assuming your commute stays constant) to get out that lease, or wait until lease end and pay the $4500 excess mileage fee then.

Regardless, its costing you $4500 more than it otherwise would have to lease an Audi through February/March 2015.

Doesn't $800/mo seem a bit high? I've seen a fully loaded 650i at 830/mo...

He did not pay the $4,500. He is saying that is what he would have paid had he held onto the car. He paid nothing out of pocket and got a brand new car for a little more a month, and got more miles per year.

I'm not sure I followed all that! I have a 2010 Prestige with a 42 month lease that has just under 25K miles (about 12K miles/year). The sales manager says I can get a six month extension and get the all new 2014 S4. What do you guys think?

I think your sales manager is clueless. If they facelift the S4 for MY2013, what makes him think Audi will replace it with an all new model 1 year later?
