My 2010 has near 80,000 km with no issues. The wifes GTI with DSG has 208,000 km no issues. The GTI was my former daily driver and was driven hard. This is a GREAT TRANNY. I also have an S2000 6 speed manual and love it. I have driven and owned a number of manuals. I drive my Stronic once up to operating temperature in full manual. This tranny has some faults but in a race I believe I could take most of the line in a quarter mile race.

It's not in your head, but it's not faster, either. What you're experiencing is that 'connected' feeling of driving a manual. With a manual tranny you ease off the gas when you shift, and when you push down again and re-engage you almost feel the power with your foot. As a result you also feel the pull of the torque more, having a momentary release from it.
The DSG feels like taking off in an airplane, you feel the initial thrust, but then it wears off and you have this odd sensation of feeling like you're going faster without any real feedback. In contrast, a manual feels more like a rocket with multiple stages kicking you in the pants on every shift.
