At least erWin Europe lists the following sound related TSBs:

Sound: dropouts in the audio output (2020852 / 1)
Sound: Bang & Olufsen - Boseverstärker or defective (2024704 / 1)
Sound: Bang & Olufsen no sound or no sound
sporadic, the control unit is defective (2023199 / 2)
Sound: Noise when the audio output (2017958 / 9)

I had the same problem for the first 1,500 miles or so. I would start the car, the radio, cd or sirius would come on, and then it would go mute for about 30 seconds. I would switch between radio/siruis/cd and each one would play, but there was no noise coming from the system.

The problem seems to have disappeared. The car has about 2,500 miles on it now so it hasn't happened in some time.

Did anyone figure this out. Mine will go silent for maybe 10 seconds. Happens every 5 minutes or so. Have had the car 3.5 years so this is a new problem. Wondering if anyone solved this. Thanks.

Funny I ran across this thread. I had my 2015 for just 3-weeks now and having the same issue. Actually, I start noticing the sound cut-offs the 2nd day already. First, I thought it was the HD FM radio, so I switched to standard FM radio but seems to still occur once in a while. I haven't drove my car that much, so haven't had time to try different sources (ie. XM and SD). I meant to bring it into the dealer, but my schedule has been too tight. Also curious to see anyone else experience this and how to get it fixed. I hope it just goes away by itself...

Same issue here... source doesn't matter (I only use cd and sd, but happens with both). Just started for me recently... 2011 S4.

My 2014 and 2011 have booth cut out one time. But Don't have many miles on eitther. 2010 did not have B&O

Just curious...have any of you with this problem tried rebooting the MMI?

Just to follow up, last time it happened (a few weeks ago), I rebooted the MMI afterwards. It hasn't happened since, but I've only been able to drive the car a few times.

Mine started with the occasional cutting in and out...then one day the stereo just went silent. All appeared fine, but no sound at all. I'm not very technical, but the dealer called it a bad Bluetooth module. They probably just rebooted the MMI. That was 2 years ago and haven't had a problem since. MY2011 Prem Plus with B&O.

I don’t usually post but I appreciated the help this forum was for my car’s issue. I have a 2013 S5 that would go silent for 5 seconds at a regular 80 second interval. Very annoying. To make a very long story short, two dealerships and a private shop couldn’t figure out the issue. First I was told their computer said it was the amp. A couple grand (their parts and labor- I did it myself with parts from a junkyard for 100$). Next it was the console. A couple grand later (120$ ebay) it was the radio receiver (trunk mount) (110$ junkyard) (and the last mechanic did apologize for the mistakes). The first two swaps did nothing. The radio swap got it playing normally for one drive. Then the component protection system kicked in without any warning and the sound went dead. That required one last trip to the dealer and an hour’s labor charge. But done.
