Default So..... back from the dragstrip round 2

Took the car to the track again tonight for the 2nd time.... I know this isn't a drag car but I love drag racing and this car really surprises people! Going to do some road racing soon....

Anyway....

Conditions:
70 degrees, 55% humidity, 55 dewpoint, no wind, 1900ish DA..... Really a very nice day for drag racing in June.... Unfortunately, this produced a huge crowd so I only got 3 runs..

Car:
2010 S4, s-tronic, 19's, SD..... car had 770 miles when I got there, about 3/8 tank of gas and full weight. Oh and esp and asr off in dynamic mode, thanks Bruce!

I ran a best of 13.06 100% stock and have since added the strat intake....

Run 1
1.8512 60ft
5.3891 330ft
8.2743 1/8 mile
85.51 1/8 mph
10.7545 1000 foot et
12.8523 1/4 time
108.44 mph

Run 2
1.8862 60ft
5.4403 330ft
8.3286 1/8 mile
85.67 1/8 mph
10.8107 1000 foot et
12.9044 1/4 time
108.43 mph

Run 3
1.8592 60ft
5.4330 330ft
8.3362 1/8 mile
85.34 1/8 mph
10.8230 1000 foot et
12.9170 1/4 time
108.43 mph

Thoughts..... Happy with the results.... IMO the improvements were more the weather/DA then the intake but who knows.... almost wish I had stayed stock. MPH was extermely consistent... thought about sticking around for bracket racing but just have too much going on.... Once again a lot of surprised people by the car.....

Will order an exhaust in the next few days and return with that on. Really tempted to put the replacement cats on from 034 motorsports but will probably wait for a tune. Also, thinking about tearing the intake off an extrusion honing it and the elbow.... Again, probably make that a winter project.

Thoughts/comments/?'s

Here are the slips: Can't get them to attach for some reason.... GRRRRR

Sorry about the slips... my attachments keep failing and the quality on the one that did post is horrible.... I'll retake them and try again....

That's impressive. I'd wager the cooler weather had more to do with the lower times than did the intake.

Default Nice times, very consistant.

You could be a bracket racer, with your results.

What octane fuel were you using 91 or some of the unobtainable stuff, like they have back east?

Have your tried spraying water over the front of the SC heat exchangers?

Bruce, Thanks....

NickS, Agreed.... Intake sure does sound cool though! LOL

m444, Yeah, it is a really consistent car.... The runs were on pump gas, I use Shell 93 octane. Sunoco has 94 octane but I prefer Shell. There are a few stations that offer 100 octane as that is what I run in the B5 and Mustang.... Not sure it would help much w/o a tune but I may have to try that.... Haven't done anything like spraying the heat exchangers.... I have lots of ideas for the car but will probably do most of it over the winter since I won't drive it then.... really just enjoying the car now.

Next time I should have an exhaust, which probably won't do much..... I am also planning to arrive with maybe an 1/8 tank of gas and may even pull the spare and tool kit out of the trunk as I will guess that it is 40-50lbs. Thought about pulling that stuff yesterday but the track was packed and I went by myself so I didn't.

Primetime - Did you have the gear shift lever in "D" or "S"? Did you allow it to shift on it's own or did you shift yourself? Any special technique off the line or did you just mash the gas and go?

I'm asking all this because I feel the car is faster when you're not at WOT and the shifts are certainly faster when you're not at WOT. WOT = pedal to the floor. Allowing the car to shift on it's own seems to be faster than shifting it myself.

NickS, Yes, I let the car shift itself and I was in "S" mode with the car in dynamic mode and esp/asr off....

As for technique, I found pulling through the first yellow beam and then using my left foot on the brake to inch forward until I trip the second yellow. I then keep my left foot on the brake and right foot on the gas but not pressing it. On the 2nd to last yellow on the tree I release the brake and floor the gas, IE go WOT. I will have to experiment with what you are saying as the shift are lighting fast for me.... I can't imagine them being faster but I will give it a try.

Raced a 2008 vette 6-speed with a good driver and the one pass I had him until about the 1000 foot mark before he passed me. Funny thing is he pulled me in gear but lost ground while shifting and again this guy was a good driver. Even as he was passing me he had to shift and dropped back maybe a 1/4 car length, just so obvious of how good this tranny is. Even w/o more boost/power if this car had launch control and I could launch at say 3500RPM I would be in the mid 12's easily.... Good times for sure.... later Ron

Many thanks!

I can only imagine the look on the Vette drivers face as this 4000lb family sedan next to him was hauling some serious butt!

We can't brake-torque with our cars, right?
