I had a 2010 A4 and even with stage 1 software it was just OK to drive. I moved to a 2011 S4. The seatsare way more supportive and comfortable(6'3", 230lbs) and I had sport seats in A4. Engine much more zippy and responds with slightes hint of gas. A4 did have dead spots. Brakes are noticeably better as well. Suspension is way better and stiffer when needed. YOu can make the S4 from an A4 if thats what you want but your gonna spend a ton to upgrade the brakes, suspension, engine, seats. Well more then the difference between the 2 plus you will have voided most of the warranty.
Back seats are more bolster in the bottom as well as the back BUT you could easily swap out the cushions/seating surface or sell them and buy the A4 rear seating surface way cheaper then making you brand new A4 and S4 when and if buyers remorse sets in or the kids dont all fit when they grow.
Just my $0.02 but its a world of difference and well worth it

I started shopping for a new A4 and liked the cars very much- very comfortable, nice package and the 2.0T fits the bill for daily driving.
However, if want a bit more from your daily ride, as I do, like standing out from the crowd, being able to handle "spirited" driving when wanted, a car that is more "fun" to drive and holds it's value better- get yourself an S4.
I gave up on the buying a new A4 and purchased a nice used 2010 S4, well-optioned with just 26,000 miles for less than a new car.
I am DELIGHTED with my decision everyday I drive it!

You are forgiven for driving Asian ;) - S4 is night and day to an A4
Drive both - I can't count that high as to how many posts of those who have A4/A5's - bitter they did not go "S". Its a heavy car - you need the extra ponies.

I don't want to steal away from the OP on another thread but I'm interested in a 2010 S4 as well. I've been a lifelong Japanese car driver and we currently have an Acura TSX (150K with no issues) and an Infiniti QX56. But something is driving me crazy to get an Audi. I love the understated luxury and the fact that you don't see them all over the road. BMW is practically the official car of my neighborhood!
I really wanted my wife to get the Q7 when we were shopping for the QX56 but we both couldn't justify the much smaller size of the Q7 since we have 3 kids (8, 5, 3). Plus we actually take the QX off-road and I knew that the QX was built on the Armada/Titan frame.
I'm trying to figure out what you get above a "regular" S-Line A4. I know the S/C V6, Recaro seats and some minor body trim. Anything else I'm missing? Did anybody move from a B8 to the S4? Differences? Is the S/C V6 a good bit better than a chipped B8?
Thanks for helping me out!

I live in SE Pennsylvania, just outside King of Prussia. I paid just under $39,000. I looked for a cheaper S4, but considering mileage and options, I feel like I did pretty well.

You should definitely test drive both before making your decision. I had a 2012 Acura TL (FWD 280 hp | 254 ft-lbs torque) w/Tech package and initially was looking at the A4. The A4 was pretty comparable performance wise (even though it has less power (211 hp | 258 ft-lbs torque) to my TL although the A4 felt smoother. After driving the S4, there was no way I could go back to driving my TL or getting the A4. I would classify both the TL and A4 as having a nice ride, but the S4 is the first car I've owned that I would say is fun to drive. That said, I'm sure you will love both over the TSX.

I drove into the Audi dealer in my 328i, intending upon test-driving a new A4, I drove out with a USED S4 because it was the only S4 they had on the lot and I LOVED it!

I test drove the 2013 S4 first and when I realized I didn't want to take the full depreciation since the MY is almost over, I decided to test drive the A4 thinking the cheaper pricetag might make taking the depreciation a little bit easier. The difference was night and day. The A4 had deadspots whereas the S4 was effortless in its acceleration. I knew at that moment if I got the A4 I would have been in a perpetual state of "what if" so I found a CPO S4 and bought it. Admittedly in my city it is a little bit hard to enjoy the S4 on a daily basis with the stop and go traffic but when I do get on the highway boy my mouth is grinning from ear to ear.
