Default S-tronic vs. R32 DSG, R32 better....

Updating my "S-tronic hesitates thread" with thanks for the replies there.....

I worked the S4 much more this evening, and the shifts were terrible. On downshift the car lurches a lot on engagement in the lower gear.

Cripes, I had a couple routine 2nd to 3rd shifts while accelerating and the car lurches a bit.

Given everyone else's experience I need the car serviced.

I went out in my VW to compare and it was perfect. Downshifting 3-2 was like butter. Engagement was smooth whether I was on the gas or not. And routine upshifts were totally unnoticeable.

I am glad the VW felt so good, because that gives me confidence that this will be fixed.

I'll give an update after I get it looked at, though that may take a while given the distance.

Unless anyone thinks I could damage the engine?

Doubt there is engine damage, but what you describe is very abnormal unless you are lifting the throttle at the precise time it shifts, they should all be incredibly smooth.

I have to disagree. With the R32 having a transverse engine setup the downshifts especially are brutal compared to the longitude S4 setup. I own a MKII 3.2 DSG Audi TT. I upgraded the pendulum mount to help out. Better but not as good as the S4 S-Tronic.

Best news I've had all day. Because in all my obsessive compulsiveness the R32 is what sold me on the S-tronic.

Car is on it's way to service even as we speak. I need to post a shout-out to Roadside Assistance .....
