I have only been modding these things since last 01.5 S4. Had to beef up clutch going to stage 3 though. 6MT tranny was fine.

Yeah, the B5s could make so much power that the clutch easily became the weak link...kinda cool to have a car that actually needs a beefier clutch.

Default S-Tronic is beefier

Personally, I think it is the best car to mod, and the only cars where I have never "ruined: the suspension. Please tell me if I am wrong about the 6MT, otherwise I will assume it is as bulletproof as all of the past trannys (with admittedly sloppy shifts and only-ok feel). Thanks.
2010 S4 s-tronic is rated at 406 ft.lbs of torque while manual is rated at 369 ft.lbs. So ABTs light tune version meets the lower capability of the manual.

Where do you get these numbers from?

Here you can see how the MTM S4 B8 handles from a roll vs the Bmw M3 E92.

It think it's quite impressive : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ge84DQzqD8#

I think somewhere around $1000 is more tolerable for this car. ECU upgrades in europe are also way more expensive than here for some reason. As I said above, when the other USA tuners come out, there will be some better pricing. I personally think that using a piggyback ECU offering is kinda hokey.

With 3 models (A6, S4 & S5) sharing the engine, I too agree that it is only a matter of time before other tuners jump into the tuning war on these V6Ts.

But I am not sure about the piggy back system being the inferior setup. IMHO, with this system, there is no downtime for the install, and it also makes resale much easier as it allows the owner to sell it separately and not have to find another ECU to take its place. Also, MTM and ABT are not new to Audis and I think there must be a reason that they both decided to use the piggy back system as oppose to chipping or flashing the stock ECU. We will just have to wait and see if other tuners can come up with a better solution than MTM and ABT.

I found both numbers in an internet search a couple of weeks ago. It's easy to find the s-tronic ratings (406 ft.lbs and 9,000 rpm) but I can't seem to find the manual ratings anymore. Sorry.

It's considered an "inferior setup" because it is solely a signal conditioner. Meaning, it sends the ECU false signals. Where as a flash or new ECU is an "actual" tune of the chip. What's better performance wise? Probably nothing.

From what I heard, MTM chose to go the piggyback route so they did not have to crack the ECU encryption/protection. Hence why it's "inferior".

First chip/piggyback to $1000 with guaranteed warranty, I'm in.

I thought the ABT offering was an ECU upgrade, not piggyback.?
