Default Just a warning about B8 S4 water coolant pump failures

It turns out my recently-failed water pump is part of a growing problem with the B8 S4s. Within the span of a day, all of my engine coolant had leaked out of my car - resulting in a nasty pull-over-immediately warning & audi roadside tow-job. You'll know if your're leaking if you smell a slight burning odor. Within a day (40 miles of driving) of first smelling this scent, my pump had blown.. rendering the car immobile. Check your coolant levels (the pink colored reservoir behind the driver-side headlights) if you find yourself with spare time.

My dealer mentioned they are seeing an increasing number of B8 Rev 1 water pumps more or less fail within ~10,00 miles. After the free tow, they replaced my pump with the Rev 2. Let's see how she holds up.

Mine is losing coolant. Have been intouch with the service dept. Trying to nurse it another 1,000 miles to have the water pump replaced at 5k service. Holding my breath.

Out of curiousity, are both of your S4's MY2010? Do MY2011Ms have the same problem?

Depends on the build date. Supposedly anything built March 10 and after has the newer pump. It should be fixed with the '11s and later '10s.

Supposedly the problem was fixed in late model yr 2010 production. I took delivery in late March so I don't know if mine has the revised model or not.

Default How about a TSB/recall?

I have 8800 miles on My 2010ibis, built 11/09. My coolant level is at Max but I am worried something may happen if I take a long trip. Say I get stuck in the desert with no cell phone access.
Even NWS4Guy wants it to happen to him so he can get over that.
I think Audi should release a TSB or even better a recall so we can all (mainly 2010's) get it fixed and feel more confident about our great car.

Mine was built 12/09. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Mine was built 11/09 and has 16,500 miles on it. The coolant reservoir is full to 1/2" above the min level, cold. It's been 1000 miles since the 15,000 full service. Thanks for the heads up, I will keep an eye on the coolant level. Wonder who has the most miles on a rev 1 pump?

Excellent post - thanks for the heads up!

I believe that my last Audi to have overheating problems - was the first Audi I ever owned - an '88 80. It'd be quite ironic if my current S4 - built over 20 years later - also had overheating problems!

Wow. Thanks for the heads up too. I have 2011, and only 1300 miles on it, and it's already a quarter from the minimum! That's not right. I'm bring it to the dealer tomorrow.
