Default Snow tire pressure

Hi, just wondering what the collective wisdom on snow tire pressure was. I know for the summer tires it's 41 psi, should I do the same for my winter tires? Thanks.

What size are they and what is the load rating?

I run 41 psi, front and rear, with the winter tires...same as with the summer tires.

Those aren't even the right pressures for the summer tires...

I run my winter tires at 33/30 because that's the proper pressure for 98 XL rated tires for the axel weights of the S4.

Pic of my Estoril Blue with winter setup. First snow in Chicago and went out to get gas for the snowblower and good excuse to drive in the snow!

41 psi is the Audi recommended tire pressure for "full load" conditions...passengers and/or cargo. Since i regularly have 4 people in the car, I use the higher pressure. I'm thinking this will also provide a bit more protection for the wheels with the 35 aspect ratio tires, and perhaps a little better tread life. Time will tell.

See this image of the tire pressure recommendation from the manual and doorjamb from previous posts on the subject.

I run Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s (235/45-18). The extra sidewall helps avoid damage from potholes, and have negligible speedo error. No problems with wear or performance at 40lbs F&R.

I'm aware of the image. I scanned it and posted it some time back. You're probably the first person I've run into who has 4 people in the car more often than not. Tire pressure is a complicated topic. It considers tire load rating, weight of the vehicle, and speed. The high tire pressures Audi recommends are further compounded by the fact that the tire pressure ratings cover the full 155MPH speed limit of the S4, but if you're not driving that fast you don't really need that much pressure for proper inflation.

I run Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s in 235/45/18. I run them 33/30 due to the 98XL load rating.

I called Michelin when I bought Pilot Alpin PA3s for my 2010 S4 back in November 2009. I asked what pressure to use because I went from a 19" wheel to a 17" wheel with taller sidewalls. The Pilot Alpins were also thinner than my summer tires. They told me than nobody has ever asked that question and they would have to call me back. They did and told me that I should use same pressure as I use in my summer tires. I am still using the same Pilot Alpins on my 2014 S4. I use 39 psi in front and 36 psi in back.
