Gas mileage: S4 vs. other cars
Was looking through some gas mileage figures yesterday while I wait for my 2013 S4 to arrive and found some interesting results:
2012 S4: 18/28 (city/hwy mpg)
2012 C300: 17/24 (city/hwy mpg)
2012 Q5: 20/27 (city/hwy mpg)
2012 ML350: 19/20 (city/hwy mpg)
What's most surprising is that the S4 is more fuel efficient than the C300, given the bigger engine in the S4. Q5 is the most efficient in the city, whereas the S4 is the most efficient on the highway (yet another surprise because I expected the Q5 to be more efficient on the highway but the difference is minimal).
ML350 takes the cake though for being the least efficient on the highway.

Yes, I suppose if you're going to splurge on an S4, fuel efficiency is likely not on top of your list of priorities. Just a friendly discussion.

On flat terrain highway, cruise control set to 71mph, I get 28-29 mpg, but with rolling hills knocks this down to 24-25 mpg.
In town, with a lot of stoplights, I get 16mpg driving like a Camry driver.
My normal driving in town I get around 13-14 mpg, but if driving very hard in town, the gas mileage under 10mpg.
The S4 can get good gas mileage, but your results will vary.

My S4 gas mileage avgs at 17 mpg. It's mostly all city driving but I have never seen 280 miles with a tank. Take that for what it's worth. Now my wife's Q5 is AWESOME on gas.

Ever since I switched my default mode to "Comfort" I have been getting 22-23 back and forth to work. The route I take for the 10 miles each way is a waste with it in Dynamic. So When I am drinking my coffee or dealing with traffic I am getting good gas mileage but the last half mile I can switch it to dynamic and clean it out.
The difference between comfort and normal is 2-3 mpg. Those of you reporting 17-18 must have it in dynamic all the time?
