Former 335 owner - just picked up my new S4 prestige
I purchased my e92 335i coupe in 2006 ('07model year) - and have driven it for the last 50k miles. I was originally planning on buying a M3 next - but the new S4 really piqued my interest. As a former S4 owner (v8 b6) I was a little hesitant with the v6 - but was pleasantly surprised how nice it drove. I don't think it is as quite as "visceral" as the 335 (in a rowdy school-boy sort of way) is - but it is SO much smoother in power delivery and road dynamics. Over the last 3 years the 335 has been good to me (no HPFP problems) - but it's interior styling is bland and I always missed my S4. I haven't finished breaking in my car yet so I haven't pushed it - but down low it feels similar to the 335 and actually a lot nicer than the M3. Once you open up the M3 it's a beast and it's hard to compare the two cars since they are so different in character (the M3 is a far superior 'race car' but the Audi seems much more livable).
FWIW, I got $2k off MSRP - and comparing that to a heavily discounted '09 M3 ($7.5k off sticker) there was a $10k difference which made my choice much easier. I'm hoping my new S4 will get close to my 3 year lifetime MPG average on my 335 of 26.5mpg, and provide as many years of fun driving.

Same boat as you
I am trading in my 335 as well and get my S4 on Wednesday. I had a load of issue with my 335. New turbos and 2 fuel pumps and several ingitiion coil failures.
I am excited to get the new S4. The interior on the 335 is a joke. But the power was nice.
But I mush prefer the power delivery of the S4. I went for the S-Tronic

Good choice! I just traded a 2008 335cic for a S5 Cab and couldn't be happier.
The BMW 'vert really felt heavy. The Audi feels much nimbler to me. And the S-tronic romps on the Bimmer's 6 speed auto in terms of shift speed, smoothness and intelligent shifting. It's also nice to loose the torque converter and get the direct lock up of real clutches. Not to mention quattro......

Congrats, I too am a soon to be former BMW guy myself. Placed my order yesterday so hopefully have by start of year. I have had 3 series and 5 series BMW's over the last 10 years and never thought I would break away. I am not sure if the S4 will be trouble free. I know there have been some well documented vibration problems and other assorted electric issues, but I have had a few issues with my BMW's as well.
It's funny how my BMW rep was shocked and gave me the you will be back line.
I said if BMW made a car like the S4 maybe I would stick around. Last I checked there are a ton of 3 and 5 series crawling the streets. With only 3000 S4's coming to the U.S. at least there is some exclusivity there. I just wish Audi had done a little more to differentiate itself from A4 S line. I know this is personal taste, but I wish they had the S Line 7 spokes as the S4 wheel instead of the tri 5 spoke.
I truly believe BMW will be back with a vengeance with next 3 and 5 series models. I think they are feeling the heat from Audi with great styling inside and out.
