Default eumh, what the h*ll did just happened?!

So I am just going from 3rd gear to 4th gear (5000rpm) when I hear a muffled boom in the rear end of the car. The beep alert alarm goes of in the car and all of a sudden the hole dashboard lights up with various warning sign. At the same time a smell start to appear (no, not the one from when you slip on the clutch, I know that one). All of a sudden the car felt "loose" in responding to the steering wheel and I was not able to rev the rpm up. Something about the differentials appeared briefly and then disappeared from the dashboard. So I stopped, shut down the engine, waited for a couple of minutes, fired it back up and all the alters and warning lights was gone, the car was back to being like before.

What the hell did just happened... has anyone else experienced something similar and should I take it to the shop for a check up???
Remember, no warning lights are on anymore so it might be hard to get the tech guys over at Audi to look at it...

If you have VCDS, run a scan. If not, go to the dealer to have them check.
I think a cpl of guys have had similar issues.

If you have VCDS you should run a full scan and post up the logs. Otherwise, I'd call roadside and get it to the dealership tomorrow

I am sure some codes were recorded.

Perhaps you have a bad engine sensor - maybe the engine speed sensor - that made the engine cut off for a fraction of a second.

No... I just ran a CarMD diagnostics and nothing showed up. I started the engine, no warning lights, did some revving, the response was perfect.

Now, unless VagCom can see something the CarMD can't?

CarMD is a OBDII P-Code scanner only AFAIK. VAG-COM will read all the control units in the car.

Right but the list of OBD II codes look very extensive though

...just trying to avoid paying like $300 just to have Audi do a scan, looks like Vag Com only works on PC (i'm a mac user).

But I think they are mainly for emissions related stuff.

You should take it straight to the dealer and describe to them what happened. I am sure they will do a scan. This seems potentially dangerous. Shouldn't all this be covered under warranty?

Where do you live (general area)?

There are lots of members here who would probably offer to run a scan for you with their VAG-COM. (me included)

New York City - Yea either that or if there are any shop in the area that have a VagCom (I know there are a lot of small car shops in the Greenpoint area)
