Default EPC light

Hello gang, I have received my S4. It's been about 7 weeks and I've done the usual break in for the first 1K (600miles). Started moving it more and more. Employing DSG and manual mode. I also have the sport diff.

Now 2800K. I have had 2 instances of EPC light coming on specifically in manual mode with subsequent misfire of cylinders. Restart brought engine back to all 6 cylinders but EPC light on. After parked for a day EPC light off. Took it in first time - ODB called it 'sporadic' misfire. No problems for a week. Took it on a 1K highway trip. No issues. Back in the city - manual mode - same thing. Car in shop - same codes - sporadic misfire - 2 cylinder heads down (1 on either side).

Of note - the Engine light never came on. What does anyone think? Of course I am concerned this is happening in a new car...Thanks for your input.

Someone PLEASE tell me that Audi (VAG) isn't still having issues with their coil packs!

Thanks Bruce - Car in shop...still. (>24h). I am told there is a software update that needs to be installed. They are now in touch with Audi technical (national level) and this is what they have recommended. I guess we will see.

I will ask them to produce the VAG codes and post them.

Cheers-

So It's happened three times. 1100km/2100km/3000km. Regardless to say - it has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I'm driving a rental - not the way I imagined new S4 ownership to be.

It was on the COM with AudiCanada and AudiAG. Of course the event could not be re-simulated. But on all three occasions Cylinder 6 seems to be the initial location of the misfire. It was noted that there were over 200 misfires in the intervening 1000km and I was told that that is not uncommon as they go unnoticed.

They opened the cylinder heads and examined the culprit cylinders with a BORA scope (fancy fiberoptic scope. They noted some very faint residue on the piezo fuel injectors. So they are going to replace these two injectors and see where we go from here. Apparently this was a early problem on the Q7.

I am told that N. American fuel (compared to European) is permitted to contain a higher percentage of 'filler' despite going for Top Tier Audi recommended fuel which is what I have always done (Shell V-Power for me). Hence several carbon threads on the german car forums. So we will see what happens next. I remain the pessimist...

Holy crap. That really sucks. Sorry for your troubles. Isn't this cause for "lemon"ing the car? 5 visits for the same issue?!?!?!

No Lemon law where I live. This IS absolutely crazy - I keep searching for common threads with this forum and others and clearly it's not happening frequently at all! I am trying the proper channels through corporate audi for a vehicle substitution but they're not biting.

This is not worth my time - I am going to probably trade-in. But I'm very very nervous about getting another S4.....I'm looking elsewhere now and there aren't any good alternatives...

The other sad part is I put full PPF over the bumper/full hood/full fender/the works + ceramic tint thinking this would be an investment in a long term ownership - 2K worth...it's only money I guess....just a lot of work
