This is probably the most annoying thing about the S4 for me (at least from a convenience point of view)...

Basically, you can't lock the car until all the doors are closed.

So, while my daughter digs through her purse, etc, etc ... I have to stand there and wait until she's out and closed the door to lock the car.

On our BMW, you can lock the car before the doors are closed. Way better design...

Hmmm, on our 2011 S4, if my wife has not yet closed her door, and I press the lock button on the key fob, once she does close the door, the alarm beep sounds and the car is locked. Haven't tried to use the door handle button to "pre-lock" the car when her door is open though.

I'm pretty sure it has always been this way - you can pre-lock any open door except the drivers door - the driver's door must already be closed in order to pre-lock.

No, I tried this as well. It will if I use the fob but not the button on the door (keyless entry).

FWIW, I cannot lock any of my car doors while open with the lock activator on the handle.
Maybe they enabled this for the soccer moms driving the Q series.

Maybe, but If you can do it with the fob and the soccer moms can do it than why do us husbands and dads not have the same options? I bought the Vagcom cable and I went through the whole coding on both cars and could not find it. I'm sure it's there but would like to have someone a little more savey with the whole Vogcom thing to help.
