about a million thanks
Tails, Can't thank you enough for the detailed post on your LI install. I have been studying my A6 for about a week trying to figure out the best way to install mine. You saved me a ton of time and probably a couple of mistakes.
The only things I did different were, because the A6 grille doesn't lend itself to putting the sensors in the grilles area, I mounted mine under the headlights just inboard of the fog lights:
I know, it doesn't look level or perpendicular. Trust me, it's an optical illusion due to the curvature of the car. It's not quite as inconspicuous as I had hoped, but about the best place I could find.
Next, I found that the under dash cover has perforations like for a speaker. I assume it's so one can hear the annoying seat belt dinging. It is also the perfect spot to put the control head. It just fits above the cover and with the perforations, is very audible. Sorry, no picture of that.
The last thing I did different is because I have a strong aversion to putting holes in a dashboard that someday I will have to figure out how to conceal. So, in this case I took an old Radio Shack plastic project box used a Dremel to cut it to the size I wanted, heated it up and bent new sides and formed it to fit the dash area and lastly using the Drremel and a file shaped it to match the contour of the dash. It's not quite as pretty as I had hoped, but I can live with it. It is held in place with some industrial strength double sided tape.
All in all, thanks to you, a very acceptable installation in under 4 hours.
Just for grins, here is a very poor picture of my V1 install:

Great write up......
Just wanted to say Thanks for this excellent write up! I followed the instructions exactly for the install tonight on my S5 and it made it so much easier. Of course most of my time was spent making sure the heads were aligned perfectly, but I did fabricate similar brackets to yours and used the same type of mount with the 3M molding tape. Just wanted to resurrect this post and tell you great it was to have this detailed DIY!!!

Isn't the laser jammer illegal in most states? or in all states?
Has it been effective ? I mean, did the cops sound surprise they could not get a reading off your car, and decided to stop you just the same?

It's also considered very bad practice to jam to gun. The accepted practice when you get hit with laser is to slow down to an acceptable speed before killing the jammer and letting the cop get a reading on you. It is not unusual for a cop to have trouble acquiring a speed on some cars, so chances are they will be none the wiser.

According to these guys, who know their stuff on laser, jammers are only illegal in 11 states.

Agreed on the etiquette of turning off the jammer on initial hit. Flaunting it in the officer's face is never a good idea.

Laser Jammers are legal in almost all states, and yes, they are very effective if you get the right product.

If you're using a Laser Interceptor, the gun is not going to show a code. It shows absolutely nothing. Every time. It also does not always take a fraction of a second to get a reading. it depends on the car, the distance, and whether or not the shooter is using a tripod, and I say that having shot a Lidar gun myself against multiple vehicles. Additionally, there is the fact that most cops either do not know about laser jammers or are under the mistaken impression that they do not work.
