Michelin Alpin myself. Very pleased. Highly capable snow/slush/rain and yet quiet. I did go with 18" for Winter however (2nd set of rims).

Anyone have feedback on those?

Same here, great tires, I actually like them more than my stock 19 dunlops (i know it's apples vs oranges). 4 tires fit just right with the back seats down..

I think if you put the seat down, would have even more room to fit the tires.
Not the best idea. If you were to get in an accident, those wheels could fly into her like a projectile.

Good to know. I picked up a set of LM-25's which are V rated and supposedly the "performance" Blizzak.

I just picked up a set of Michelin X-Ice 2 with Hartmann RS4 reps in 18". Looks great but cannot comment on the performance yet :-) I did have a choice between the PA3 and Xi2 and decided I would sacrifice some dry handling performance for ice/snow traction.

Bought these Blizzak LM-25's at tire rack closeout, $125 each, mounted up on the stock peelers just fine, $125 apiece! 225 width means a slight stretch, basically no side bulge, but great for the price. Not on the car yet as too early here, but mounted and waiting in the garage....

Mommy is on travel out of country, so had to bring her along. The tires were to her side and wedged in well. Would have to be t boned on the drivers side for them to have hit her. They were right next to her as well so not enough room to really get up any momentum.

I picked up a barely used set of 245/40/18's on Ebay and trying to decide whether to go with a 8" or 8.5" rim width. Snows generally run a bit fatter than non snows and OEM 18's are on an 8" rim.

I was under the impression that I had to get a 255/35 tire. Doesn't the rim dictate the tire size? Forgive my ignorance in this area.

Also any downside to swapping tires on the same rim over and over? (Besides the install costs)

To an extent......but a tire can generally fit a rim width spread of 1-1.5 inches from low to high. The tread width will be a bit stretched with a 225 on an 8.5" width.

Yes. It is tough on the tire sidewalls and you're increasing the potential for wheel damage.
