B8 S4 Drag Racing Advices, Myths and Facts
#11
Good thread, and hopefuly the good weather inspires some more B8 guys to get out there. This car is fantastic at the dragstrip.
Akrion, I noticed in both vids you may be deep staging. Try to work on the staging techniques outlined by primetime here and in that thread on audirevolution. That may be costing you a tenth or even two.
p.s. you missed an important tip that I learned from your video at PBIR: make sure you're not in reverse!
This video was pretty cool.

Akrion, temps and more specifically DA are huge... Potentially a few tenths... You are at a very fast track also... With your mods and a 500ish DA on pump you should see 12.2x if the car is running good IMO...
The headers will help but as Bear outlines they may not be worth it cost benefit wise... I may buy some test pipes just for fun as I think I can now swap them myself...

No worries though... I did something similar a few weeks ago when I tried to do a mini burnout and almost ran into the wall! Lol!

Unfortunately that will be something I will have to deal with. I am going in few weeks again and will try the shallow staging and all the other advices! Thanks a lot guys!

Actually, from Nov - Feb. in the eveinings they get some very low DA's... Keep in mind the track sits at like 20 feet above sea level so a 55 degree night with decent humidity and BP will put them in negative numbers... You just have to be selective about when you go...

also he is at PBIR where plenty of records have fallen (including the fastest stock B8 S4, and for a whie, the fastest stock B7 RS4, just to name a couple of Audi records there)
1. entire track is concrete, so traction is unmatched
2. they run overnight dragraces there sometimes. Making a pass at 3 am is a lot cooler than at 3PM
3. as primetime mentioned, it can get PLENTY cool in Florida in the winter at night. I have seen guys run at negative density altitude at PBIR. Don't forget it's pretty close to sea level.

Didn't realize it got so cold in Florida. Every time I'm there it's pretty damb hot! lol!
Akrion - Your current setup at 200-400DA should net you a sub 12.3 so you really don't need to add mods just practice your staging and ensure proper tire pressure.
Good Luck!

Yep, Will do! Planing my next trip mid November, only thing that will change car wise will be that I will lower it 1-1.2 inches. Nothing new is planned for now ... but things change as we all know
