I had the b6S4 for 7 years, traded it on a new '11 b8S4 dsg, diff. Audi did their homework on the b8, The car is better balanced and the SC'ed V6 has gobs of torque. The car has better styling, interior is roomier and attractive. I liked the b6, tracked it numeroius times but it was ham-fisted to direct on a road course. The b8 is easy to drive fast and much quicker.
A decent test drive may convince you. A b6 on a scale of 1-10 gets a 7 from me...a b8 gets a 9.5, there is that big a difference.

I had a B7 S4 for 8+ years, the last 2 of those years being on the fence about getting a B8 S4. The refreshed exterior of the B8.5 started to push me over the edge. What finally made me pull the trigger on a 2014 was the 2015s not even offering the Power Rear Window Sun Shades.

I thought of hanging on to my B7 until the B9 is introduced, but on second thought, it meant waiting another 3 years (assuming the B9 comes out in 2015 + 1 year for the B9 S4 + 1 year to let first year issues get fixed). Plus, I didn't want to risk not getting a manual S4 (rumor has it that the B9 S4 will not be offered with a manual).

Like DrGP and others have mentioned, the supercharged engine is just better than the V8. I've been a fan of Audi forced induction engines since the B5 S4, so I'm obviously biased.
