Default 15 MPG on New S4???

I have about 1200 miles on my new S4. According to the on board computer I'm averaging just over 15 MPG which is considerably lower than advertised. I don't drive it particularly hard - I had a 335i and averaged 19 MPG and it has 6 gears vs. 7 in the S4 which should help. Anyone else experiencing lower than expected gas mileage? Does this car need a longer break-in period?

Forget the computer. What's your actual based on fill ups?

Gas mileage depends on how you drive it. Also, in Dynamic/Sport mode the gas mileage can get low, with spirited driving.

I have approx 4000 miles and make mostly short trips and my mileage is actually less than 15 mpg. When I am on the freeway I can get around 22-23 mpg, but seldom have i seen 28mpg as they state.

I have a 2011 S4 MT6 @ 2700 Miles. With my 70% highway driving (not very aggressively driven) I have been averaging 17 MPG over the last few fillups. Just on flat highway, cruise set to 75 I dont see much higher than 24-25 from the computer (which is known to yield 1 mpg over the actual mpg). I've been expecting it to get better as the car gets broken in, but haven't seen any evidence of this. Hopefully I see a major improvement after the first service which some members have referenced.

Although the S4,on paper seems to have gas mileage similar to the 335i, I have not seen it either. My previous 335I was getting close to 19 mpg in town and 28+ mpg on the highway(@ 80 mph), fully loaded with 4 occupants . So far I am seeing about 18mpg in town and only got 22 mpg one of my few highway jaunts. AND I am not driving very aggressively. I am driving predominantly in the Auto mode of the sport diff. Probably would get better with the Comfort mode, but worse with the Dynamic. And even worse if I drove more aggressively. BUT, I can live with it, especially since my B8 S4 was significantly worse. AND, I really like driving the S4 so much better than either of those 2 cars. I hope you didn't buy this car for fuel economy. But I understand that you might been led to believe that you would be getting better gas mileage.

If you're getting +25MPG, shame on you. you're driving your car too slow!

Going to try that next. I'll forget the computer and compute it myself. That's what Audi service suggested I do first.

Almost 9k miles and Ive kept track of every fillup since new. Im averaging 19.5mpg in all my driving. About 80% city and 20% highway. To be honest its about what I got in 3 years with my 335 also. However on a 100% highway drive I could hit 30mpg with the 335 and Im lucky if I see over 24 with the S4. When I want 40mpg Ill take my bike.

So it goes.
