S5 road test in Autoweek tells us there's a MAJOR shift in Audi engineering.
Very interesting because: 1. the car is lighter than our S4's by 300#.
2. Weight distribution (Quattro) is 54/46.
All the mechanicals/design will be incorporated into the b8 A4/S4.
It is looking more and more like Audi is doing stuff we wanted. For one....a major weight reduction and a much better balanced platform.

Weight loss is major. The S4 should be better balanced with a little more weight on the rear.

...it's happening, as we speak.

Good news--and it's about time
I don't why Audi hasn't focused on weight loss earlier. I've heard that they didn't want to incur the higher costs of lighter components, but I don't think lighter components would necessarily be more costly for Audi. It seems that they could reduce the weight of a lot of components and not incur any higher costs--all they need to do is concentrate of weight reduction. My old car had a CD changer bracket in the trunk area that was made of steel. It weighed a ton. Audi could probably buy that bracket in a plastic material at a lower cost and it would weigh much less. It's just a matter of Audi paying attention to reducing the weight of as many components as possible.

I think your missing the point....
The S5 SHOULD weigh less. Remember 4 vs 2 doors. I dont know if its 300 pounds but don't expect to see 300 pounds less in a B8. And the shift in weight because of the design of a coupe vs sedan might make the difference in the weight split. Unless they are blending in some higher end technologies (ASF etc..) into the lower end cars you are not going to see weight reduction. The most you can ask for is a better weight split which is something they are obviously looking into with shifting the engines farther and farther back over the front axel. $0.02
