Default Questions for previous B5 owners

1. Do you love it?
2. Is it as tossable as the B5 S4 was ?
3. Any regrets ?
4. Are they stealing your headlights ?

My 02 S4 is nearing lease end, I love it and dread giving it up...even for a new one.
Boston area here.

Thanks

Default A couple of answers

1. I definitely love it - there are a large number of small features in this version that shows that Audi is paying attention to our complaints about the last version.

2. At least for my Avant, the car is far more tossable than a B5 S4 ever was. The OEM suspension is a vast improvement over most of the aftermarket B5 S4 "improvements".

3. Not a one.

4. Not to mu knowledge, but I live on the left coast where the habit of headlight theft is less of an issue.

Default Some answers

1. Do you love it? Yep, absolutely. It's a great car that improves on the B5 in so many ways. I loved the classic styling of the B5, so it took some time for the B6 to grow on me, but it has. It's a more refined car in almost every way.
2. Is it as tossable as the B5 S4 was? Agree with AlanL - it's more tossable - the suspension is crisper and better hands down, as is the shifter. And for brute power, you can't beat it - not with a car in this class anyhow.
3. Any regrets? I am still putting off buying a 997 - but for what I spent, no regrets at all. It's a wonderful car. Never, ever looked at the restyled BMWs - I did drive an M3, but the harshness of the car put me off.
4. Are they stealing your headlights? Hard to get at them unless they break into my garage! Still got 'em!

In sum - no regrets about moving from the B5 to the B6. I really have some doubts on the styling of the new B7 though, especially since the car's essentially unchanged mechanically from the B6. I'm glad I bought when I did.

Default Definitely love it...

It's not a light car but the handling blows the B5's away. Even w/ B5 aftermarket 'cause then it gets harsh. No regrets other than it's a gas hog. And hopefully I'll keep my headlights.

Default True, but the cheap hp mods only barely got the B5 S4 up to the levels of the stock B6

The B5 S4 takes off big time when you start up the firehose of money to upgrade the turbos and all of the associated hardware to take advantage of them. While such an upgrade is commonplace anymore, it is a highly significant investment.

Almost no one who was leasing a B5 S4 (like s4for5 here) went into that type of modding and if you didn't, you really never went beyond the performance levels of the B6 in power, handling, or braking.

Default true but it takes a simple chip upgrade and you are there.800$ is not such an investment

Well that of course, is not doing it the careful way.(exhaust, cai, fmic)

Default That's the easy hp gain and it almost (but not quite) gets the raw power angle.

You are still way behind on brakes and suspension and your engine reliability just took a dive.

You are exchanging posts with someone who did do suspension (STaSIS), brakes (Stoptech), chip (Abt), and exhaust(forge) and cooked the turbos at a track event over 800 miles from home. I don't need lessons on B5 S4 performance or reliability.

While the B5 S4 did last for over 17 track events total, it was a constant churn of aftermarket parts trying to come close to what I have been able to do with a stock B6 (11 events so far).

Yes. Yes, it's crisper. None. Still have them.
