Pops out of 2nd gear when cold
Something tells me this may be a common problem but it's difficult to search the forum for these terms. Anyway, mine likes to pop out of second when cold if I am not very deliberate with the 1-2 shift. It doesn't do it too often but it happens.
So two questions:
1. Is this a common problem?
2. Has anyone had any success getting the dealer to take care of this under warranty?
Thanks in advance

Like I said, it was before I bought it. Prev owner complained of it.
I found this out when I talked to the servicing dealer.
I don't see why it wouldn't be covered under warranty. My guess is they may try to raise the abuse flag. Just stick to your guns.
The most important thing is getting them to reproduce it, though.

Re: Pops out of 2nd gear when cold
Hindsight;
I have the exact same problem with my 2004 S4 (it sometimes pops out of 2nd on the 1-2 shift when cold).
PLEASE keep this thread updated with your solution if you find one. I'm thinking I should take it down to the dealer as well.
Cheers,
-Kurt

Re: Will do. Hard part is to reliably reproduce the problem
Suggestion: Leave it at the dealers over night and drive it with them in the AM.
It is hard to reproduce, but won't they just take your(my) word for it?

My 2004 did it
I had a very early build 2004 and it did this. AoA replaced my transmission but that was when no one in the US was trained to tear apart the transmission. I think now they will repair the existing one if they determine what the problem is.

Interesting, reported same prob (not temp dependant) to my service advisor and he had never heard of
the problem. Happens most when I'm slowing for a turn, clutch in, shift to second, and while i'm getting the rpm's right the stick pops out and into neutral.
