...three times (IIRC), pause for a second or two and then make one final wipe. At least that is what happens in my wife's '05 S4.

When you pull back the arm to initiate the windshield cleaning, it will do its thing, then after the pause or during it you can push the lever down (vice pulling it) and it will reset the sequence (same motion as the manual one stroke). So I pull it, get the fluid and three wipes and on the third one push it down.

thanks, I'll try that..but I would still rather be able to just disable it via VAG like VW allows

I actually love that feature. I always followed up with an extra wipe - now I don't have to.
