Default Its a sad day for me...

I got back a few hours ago from leaving my car with a shipping company to have it shipped back to the states. I am moving back in mid march and will unfortunately will be living in Alabama until about september. Now I have to go at most 40 days without the car.. I am going to be miserable driving here for this last month without it. I just got too used to how incredible it drives. This is the first car I have owned that I enjoyed driving every single time I got into it. Anyways, just wanted to share my pain..

Oh yeah, never posted this when it happened, but I took a rock to the windshield about a week ago on the autobahn. Went to see if my service center could repair it before I shipped the car two days ago and the ended up cracking it even more. Now I have to replace it. Bad luck I guess and USAA wont replace for free in Germany. B@stards. How much do new windshields go for in the states? They quoted me something retarded like 560 euro without tax..

Default Mike.. i'm sorry.. I feel for you... I've only put 500 miles on mine in the last four months.....

... between the weather and my system overhaul.... it's just sitting in the garage with an interior that's slowly coming back together.

I know you're not in the mood right now... but any word from MTM about getting to that level of production that was going to lower the cost of the hoods? They never got back to me about that.

Default I talked to the guy you wrote about that last week.. he just got back from vacation

and has been swamped. You may need to write him back again, but I dont think the price will come down anytime soon. Dont quote me on that, but I just dont think the demand is going to be there for them to do a run of 50-100 even at the 2000 euro price. I hope I am wrong, but I dont think I am. The only thing I could see happening that might help this is maybe if some of the new RS4 owners over here start buying it. I know they have had a couple in their shop already and are thinking about doing the RS4 trunk and possibly a roof in CF. Who knows though, they are kinda whacky when it comes to when things will be available. I have been waiting for them to get the forged version of their rim out for almost a year now. They pretty much go on their own timetable and dont make any prmises about dates for availability. Hopefully I am wrong though about the hood as I would like it as well. Just not for 4000 euro.

Where is your project at right now? What exactly were you doing that you tore your whole interior out?

Default Windshield

I had mine replaced with Audi OEM glass last winter. $400 installed. $250 insurance deductable. $150 out of pocket. Now it's chipped again. Same thing. Stone on the freeway. Here we go again.

Default ok.......

well I've been taking my time and doing a little bit one night and then taking a couple days off... so it's my own fault, but there's a lot to do.

First I had to run massive amounts of wiring.... built the speaker brackets, dynamated the doors... inlayed the silver alcantara in the door panels.... I just found it was better and quicker to pull the interior out to do it... the seats where really in the way.... The infinity kappa perfect's will blow your mind... the factory speakers start to get muddy at say 1/2 volume... Now granted the infinitys, running off the new amp can get at least twice the volume out of them... I can pump them up to where it almost hurts (which is way above the highest factory volume... and they are... well... perfect... no distortion at all.

Then I've got all the accessory antenna's and cables I've connected... basically gps, gsm, xm and fm antenna's from the roof mount sharkfin are now all going back to my trunk to work with my aftermarket components... by the weekend I should have the interior all back together, the doors done... basically everything but the trunk will be pristine and finally done.... then I've got to make the bracket to mount all the boxes and amps and everything in the trunk..... fiberglass it.... maybe cover it will alcantara.... and done. I expect the trunk to take a while, but atleaset once i get the front done I can drive it again.

.... I got word from Chip the other day that he's still 3-4 weeks from being able to design me some wheels and he told me to give him pictures of the car a good 6-7 weeks ago. He's a super busy guy and doing me a huge favor, so he can take all the time in the world... so I hope to get those sometime in the spring.

It's all coming together though.... just waiting on my rs4 airbag which should be here tomorrow.....

Default parts of alabama are nice, where are you going to be living?

Birmingham is actually a decent city, and the cost of living is very reasonable. A windshield here in the US is about $400, BTW.

Default your report from Germany was precious for us. those ceramic brakes, white interior RS4, ....

my windshield cracked last year, and insurance covered the exchange.
the price was around $750 here according to my memory. It may be cheaper in US.
