The end of the lost keys saga...500 dollars later,
500 later I am the proud owner of two new keys and two new transmitters and the recipient of 140 in service for a grand total of 460.00 almost 500 clams.
The real excitement was the two truck who went into long distance parking and had a bitch of a time getting my car on the wrecker without any keys. To his credit there was no damage at all to the car, even the alignment is good.
Morale of the story don't be an idiot like me.

u poor bastard
Yah, I learned the hard way too.
waaay back in college i was driving across the midwest in the dead of winter for some unholy reason. my girlfriend at the time and i stopped at a rest area in the middle of indiana and managed to lock the keys in the truck. it's like 2 degrees outside, we DON'T have our jackets on, and it's 2a on a Monday morning. no cell phones back in the day, and the pay phone was busted. nobody is around, so I just put my foot through the back window.
the window was $300 to repair I found out later -- it would have been cheaper to break the driver or passenger side because the rear slide-y window on the truck had to be replaced wholesale. this was over a month's rent at the time. argh.

Similar story
Was driving back to Florida from Penn State and detoured to drive up into the mountains to see some snow (I'm from Florida so at the time snow = exciting).
Got out to take some pictures, locked the keys in the car. I'm on some mountain road, it's just getting dark, and the snow is starting to come down for real. Luckily someone drove by, I flagged them down, borrowed "The Club" and broke out the window. It was a chilly ride home.
That was about 10 years ago and I haven't locked myself out of the car since.

Similar dopey move
Old '76 Porsche 911. With car in my garage, left one key in the ignition, other on spare seat (for the life of me I don't know why). Then for some stupid reason I pressed the door lock button down and slammed the door. Voila! Car locked with both sets of keys in the interior!
Thank God for coat hangers!

I did stuff like that all the time
Well, usually not with two sets of keys, but prior to the incident below I used to lock myself out of my car about once every 3 months.
I guess it took standing on a roadside in the snow for my brain to finally make that connection - you know the one that goes "you're about to lock the door, do you have your keys?" Of course, now with remote locking it's way, way harder to simply lock your keys in there.
