Transmission Limp Mode on startup
I'm starting to experience an issue when I first start the car in the morning. The transmission goes into limp mode (Red background on gear indicator). I have to restart the car to get it back to normal. I've researched and so far can only find issues where exposure to water will cause this. I don't think that's the case with my car. I've pasted the VAG-COM codes below.
If anyone has any thoughts I will greatly appreciate it. Hopefully this doesn't turn into something expensive. The car has been wonderfully reliable over the past 6.5 years. The only thing that I can think of is that my battery is getting a little weak and maybe it's not providing the voltage necessary on startup - just a WAG.
2 Faults Found:
18155 - Transmission Solenoid Power Relay: Open or Short to Ground
P1747 - 000 - - - Intermittent

I have had this same problem
I have a 2004 S4 auto trans. with about 65000 on it. Whenever the car is not kept in a garage or it gets below freezing i get this same limp mode. After about 5 to 10 minutes of warming the car up it always goes away. I was told to replace this part you would have to replace the solenoid in the trans. Then the bad news it is about a 2000 dollar job. Ive just delt with it for a year, try to keep the car inside the garage and always warm it up in the winter. Good luck...
