Hello,
I got the engine malfunction light on so I had brought my S4 to the dealer.
They said, it is because of catalytic converter and it needs to be replaced, and it costs 2k.

Is it necessary to do this job at dealers with this price?

I have the same problem on my 04S4. CEL came on at about 120k miles. Dealer and independent mechanic both confirm both cats need to be replaced. I've delayed replacement because of cost. Strangely I'm getting better gas milage now. But can't delay replacement any longer because need to get car inspected for registration renewal.

When is catalytic converter replaced, should O2 sensor be replaced too?
