Big road trip. Any suggestions?
All serviced, inspected, and new tires; I'm ready to go. This coming Friday I'm driving from Bloomington, Indiana to California. An Air Force buddy of mine has been begging me to come out for quite some time. He took a week's leave so him and I could check out Cali. We're two mid-west boys who haven't spent much time out there. At this time, he does not have a car on the base. So to me, flying and renting a car seemed, well, rather lame to say the least. But not having a car at all would be pointless. Instead, since I just purchased my first S4 last December, I would much rather have her tag along. What I am asking is this: where are some impeccable driving roads that I cannot refuse to pass up? I'll be taking I-80 most of the way, and I will be in the Sacramento and San Francisco area most of the time, but I am willing to go out of the way, especially if it allows me to see more of California's beauty. Diminish my ignorance, please.

Lots of great drives around the Bay Area. And there's always Highway 1 down the coast.
Try the NorCal forum as well.

take the drive to Carmel, Napa Valley, and Monterey.
do the 17-mile drive. make sure your coilpacks are the new kind. last thing you need is a busted up coilpack(s) to mess up your trip.

CPs done. Had one go out on the drive back from picking her up.
I had asked the guy not to wash or do anything but wiped down the engine bay before I bought her. #5 went bad immediatly so I asked him if he had hosed it down or anything. He had. So I just went ahead and did all of them to avoid any problems. Thanks for the tips, though. I've always wanted to see Napa Valley.

Plenty of great roads before you get to Cali
I would take 80W to 76 to Denver. From Denver take 70W into Utah (Salina). Take 50W through Utah and Nevada right up to Tahoe. Take the 89 from Tahoe back to the 80 leading into Sacremento.
Made the trip many times and I'm sure you will thank me later. From Denver to Tahoe is spectacular with some of the most scenic and traffic free roads in the west.
Enjoy your trip and take an extra couple coilpacks with you, along with your camera.
