Default Another torque split question

Regarding the change from 50:50 to 40:60.

I am currently researching for my first S4, and am condisering a new 06, or possible a slightly used 05.5. I know that the change went into effect with the manuals for 06 (my preffered transmission).

Question for those out there who have experienced both through ownership. Have you noticed much of a difference and if so could you please comment on it.

Thanks, and looking forward to ownership.

Default

I haven't had both, but I can't believe it makes that big a difference.

Default RS4 owners claim a difference..

I am still awaiting my RS4 before I can say. But there are many on the boards who say the 60/40 makes a difference by allowing the rear of the car to be just a bit more unstuck.

Default small difference

I just am fresh off the track and I did notice a moderate difference between the two. My last car being a 2001. There was less front end push and a bit more balance. My 2001 needed sways to feel this good, but the B7 is a better chassis to begin with. I did put sport springs on also which may help some also. The car was really neutral full throttle out of the corners in a 4 wheel drift that would have had my 01 searching for traction and diving thru.

I can truly say off the track with daily driving there was little difference.

Default There is a difference. It's not HUGE, but it's definitely there. If you get it right,

you can actually steer with the throttle, especially in the wet. I have been a quattro bigot since my first one, over 20 years ago, and I can say that this is absolutely a big improvement.

Default old S4 B5 250 ftlb. New S4, 302 ftlb

50/50 on old would be 125 fron, 125 rear. 40/60 on old would be 122.5 front, 181.2 rear. That is just less than 60 more ftlbs difference. I would think the difference is noticable. So the difference between the B6 and B7 would be 10% more to the rear with the B7, or 30.2 ftlbs more. Seems like it should be a decent difference......
