I think the S4 has aged better. Depends what you're looking for.
Convertibles aren't so much about speed. I'd take the better exterior/interior and the V8 of the S4 over the performance of the M3.

Depends what you want
Exterior styling--subjective. For me the S4 is classy and the M3 is a bit ghetto.
Interior styling--S4 hands down.
Engine--S4.
Mileage--M3.
Handling--M3.
Rarity--S4.
For me, the all wheel drive is huge, but this vehicle is my ski transportation too.
Drive both and see which wows you.
I would also consider listening to an S4 with fullback aftermarket exhaust from the outside. (Cab if possible, but that is pretty rare). Then imagine that soundtrack all the time with the top down. That sound is not possible in an M3.
