and all the good folks over at Boardwalk Audi in Plano. I couldn't have asked for a better or smoother transaction from the time of deposit to the time Nathan personally escorted our car onto the truck that would take it here. It is wonderful when you meet a great salesperson, but I also recognize that it takes a special kind of dealership to allow them to operate to their full potential.

Yes, we live in NorCal. Yes, Texas is far away. Read below the pretty pictures if you want the saga.

On the day that importation of the RS4 Cab was announced, I contacted the salesperson I had been chatting with at the local Audi dealer about getting on the list. He took my info and promised to keep me in the loop with regards to order guides, etc. We exchanged emails once a week. With little news forthcoming, I kept tabs on things via AW, since my guy (despite being an ABS) didn't seem to know what was happening. When I heard that the first cars slated for North America were in the production pipeline, I knew I had to move. Hubby and I went down to the dealer to get some answers. We found out that the ABS had not even gone looking in AIM (the dealer order system) to see their actual allocation or the status of it. To his credit he did look it up while we were there and discovered 3 cars allocated.

The first car was supposedly a special order. The others open. Then one of the dealer managers came over and told us they wanted $10K over sticker. Nice and old school;-) Hmmmmm. Now I can appreciate that if the car really does command that kind of premium, that the dealer would be foolish to pass it up. But from our viewpont, that price point opened up a slew of barely used exotics ranging from Astons to Maseratis. We declined their offer and I went home to contact some other ABS to see if that was really the case or not.

The responses were very much up in the air, but all felt that $10K was being very optimistic. My other California contacts had filled their allocations with special orders and it was too late. Nathan at Boardwalk was one of the people I pinged. He and I had chatted back and forth for several years and upon hearing my query, kindly offered up his last allocation. Knowing the overwhelmingly positive responses I have read about his prior clients, it was a no-brainer. And so the order was placed.

In the meantime, we talked about getting the car clear-bra'd. We had tried two highly rated local folks and weren't impressed. Additionally, we hoped to drive the car back during Thanksgiving week and wanted the car protected. Nathan did all the legwork, obtaining estimates for a custom job at a good price. Turns out hubby was chained to work after all, and so we could not meet Nathan in person. Some checking of trucking companies turned up one that was coming our way very soon, and so arrangements were made. Nathan spent his day off making sure our car was properly loaded with what seemed like a reputable company (the company also ships cars for some of Boardwalk's Ferrari and Lamborghini clients).

So now our latest addition to the garage has arrived safe and sound with a spectacular clear bra job to boot. Not only is it going to be a fantastic car, but we are glad to have had a chance to do business with Nathan and everybody else who makes it possible for him to do such a great job. Based on personal experience, if you need an Audi, give Nathan a shout.

Default Great story! The only thing missing is the name of the NorCal dealer.

I want to make sure I never buy a car from them.

Default To their credit they did call back offering MSRP after about a week, but

at that point I had given my word. So going back was not an option in my mind.

When my service advisor (no A3 has even had better care) found out, he went to the owner and general manager. I got a very nice follow-up apology call from the manager. He didn't angle for the sale, but just apologized. I do not hold any animosity towards them, since i used to sell cars, and know that for every car that sells at a premium, hundreds go out the door for less than MSRP. They have to try the market and see where the prices fall. You can only ask high once;-) In this case I will respectfully decline to name them, since I have otherwise heard good reports about them.

Hi Chris! It was apparently very late in allocation. Yes, it would have made things simpler

Congrats, Beautiful car. I bought an S4 Cab in June, I knew the RS4 Cab would coming soon but I did not want to lose a whole summer season. Tried to be happy with my S4 but I made the mistake of driving an RS4 Sedan. Knew the S4 would be gone. Then in Beginning of Nov I decided I wanted the RS4 Cab. Thought it would be harder to find but a quick search of cars.com and located one about 45 minutes away. Bought next day for just under MSRP. Guess it helps that Winter was coming here in MA for buying a Cab
