Default Alot of B6 S4 cars have had it. on our cars it is generally the starter solenoid going bad.
Dealer recently replaced starter on my 2004 Avant under extended warranty.

Default John you're correct - no official word, but consider the fire to be at their feet , especially...

Default yeah i had the same problem in NYC the other day. Took forever to crank and then it still barely
came on.

Default I have it too sometimes on cold starts, but it's a great trade-off for the accompanying sound:

Default Ours is a complete lack of cranking. Theirs sounds like slow cranking.
Could easily just be a battery for them.

Default I think I have misstated the problem...
I have no issues turning the car over and firing up. Cranks just fine. Its when I give it a little gas or put it in gear when still cold and it surges a bit and is sluggish until it gets the juices flowing. Kind of like giving it gas, and it wants to flood out, but then catches and finally starts moving, I can be in steady speed in 1st gear and the car will do little surges until it warms up.
