For anyone wondering what the next generation of MMI (2009) is able to use memory card wise (including the US Q5 2009 which I have), it DOES play SDHC cards just fine. I plugged in two 4GB cards last night and have been using them all day today without a hitch.

According to the new MMI manual, the slots can accomodate up to 32GB cards in either SD or MMC format. While it doesn't specifically call out SDHC in the manual, SDHC works fine 100%. Go ahead and buy 'em... it's much easier to load stuff into your MMI hard drive than burning MP3 discs.

Plus, if you share your vehicle with another person, not only can they have their own seat settings, but they can have their own SD card too.

It's cool. Thanks, Audi!

Default Question

Thank you very much for your post, I've recently got my brand new A5 and've been surfing the net in order to find out wether MMI reads SDHC. According to ur post apparently it does, the only question I have - in some forum I've read that only navigation equipped MMI does read SDHC, is that true?

It has nothing to do with MMI... It depends on the Head Unit (ior whatever device the reader is in) maximum SD Card Capacity... if it supports SD cards larger than 4GB it has to read SDHC

it specifically has to do with firmware of the system. If it is designed to read SDHC vs. SD. I am sure a firmware upgrade can fix that but Audi will not spend the time or energy for that.

Cheers

Not true. Working within the 512 file limit, 4GB cards have value in that you can use load very large, very high quality files. I use 4GB SD cards with entire albums in MP3 format, as well as MP3 files ripped from CD's at 256 kbps which tends to make for huge files. Not the overly compressed Apple iTunes crap-files that are designed to take up very little space at the expense of sound quality.
