I don't see the word "minimum" anywhere. IMHO, any of the approved oils listed can be used. I don't have my RS4 manual handy, but I do remember reading that if 5W-40 is not available, other approved weights can be used. I don't think there is a significant difference between 5W and 0W.

in europe they use 5W30

I don't think Audi would have any warranty case with 0W40 Mobil 1, especially after you produced 'the list'

owners manual:
5W40 for all temp ranges and normal driving
if 5W40 not available (who defines that?) you can use 5W30 or 0W40 as long as it meets VW 502
it also implies any 502 oil on 'the list' can be used

No, and no.

Mobil 1 0W 40 is 502 and approved on the list just as Viken posted.

Might simply be a case of your rings/cylinder walls finally bedding in. Many new RS4 owners, including me, reported oil consumption until around the 10,000 mile mark (very, very approximate).

That's pretty much what I experienced - had to add a quart at about 4k and another quart at about 9k, since I haven't had to top off at all (just passed 20k).

Yup, one and the same elevens. Congrats on the RS. There's a bunch of us that migrated from the BMW E39. So you've noticed wash/wax helps smooth running too?!

Default RLI Oil Usage

Bumping this thread...

So has anyone else used RLI 5w-40 in their RS4? Interested on any feedback on the amount of intake manifold/valves deposits vs. using VW 502 approved-oils such as M1 0w-40?
