I wouldn't say be alarmed. i would say make sure to change it every 3k miles on any approved oil. If you are going to use a cleaner make sure it is one that is not too strong and that is "nice" to the soft metals inside this engine.

I run Castrol 5W40 Syntec for 5 to 6k miles and have not ever added oil, nor noticed a difference on the dipstick...

Arthur, I understand we can do it and maybe push it the factory recommended intervals. I am not sure our engines would appreciate it.

Let us know how everything went. I hope its nothing serious. Thats what they will try to convince you there anyway. The thing is they wont want to dig to deep until you get a few more CEL's. Thats when they will take the matter seriously.

Good luck. Which dealer are you taking it to?

Alright so I ran my diagnostic tool and it came up with 4 circuits that were opened that shouldnt have been. Not exactly sure why, or how, but I ended up resetting those circuits and the light went away. Perplexing... Anyways I'm going to drive it carefully and see if that light comes on again. If that's the case, then I'll spend the money at a dealer to get it looked at. Hopefully it wont come to that. Thanks all for the help!

I don't recall the error codes we cleared it after the light went away. I'll be sure to write them down in the future.

I run 9qt (middle of dip stick) of Castrol 5w40 for 5K and only go through 1/2qt. 27K on the clock at the moment.

I'm always adding oil between changes, even when I changed at 5k intervals. I'm at 34k and I'm using Castrol Syntec. No engine codes though. I'm gonna see if those clowns at my dealership can look into it during the 35k service.
