but I've never used the cd changer even once. The dealer charged me extra for the custom setup. They put in a switch so I can alternate between the 2. But the ipod interface still suffers from a lack of track names. (and it doesn't charge my iphone, but I'm not sure if the stock does or not). I bought a 3rd party passthrough charger to fix that problem.

I would say to go with the ipod interface cause cd's are basically like 8-tracks at this point IMHO. Even though it's not a nice fancy on-screen interface, it's still ipod-driven tunes so it's somewhat future-proof as long as apple keeps the same interface. And maybe someday there will be a RNS-E software update or hack, or some third-party addon that does it.

Are they both in the glovebox then? I guess it is nice still having the option of using the ipod- and in this blog supposedly DICE is working on a kit to integrate it correctly (I just sent out an email to corroborate).

However, with the SD- the tracks and album info pops up both on the navi screen and in the dash and can be controlled by the steering wheel?

Yes the cd changer is in the normal location and the ipod cable is added to the glove compartment. A switch is mounted by the changer to toggle the line in channel between the two sources. This custom job was done by Audi Manhattan when I bought the car, but the same job can be done by "audio designs" also in Manhattan.

Yes with the SD the up/down roller on the steering wheel works IIRC. Also IIRC the album/track information is based on the file and folder name, not the id3 information.

I exchanged it for a CD changer and put my ipod stuff on SD cards. The SD cards will show track names on the screen. CD's sound much better than the ipod did anyway.

Probably has more to do with how you encoded your music to play on the iPod, versus any deficiency with the iPod itself.
