I have plenty of engine degreaser, use it on the Scout. Lots of plastic and rubber in this engine bay, so my preference is for something no chemical.
Though as I have been told, steam cleaning has it's drawbacks.

normally, for the Audi, I remove the engine covers and lightly spray it with cleaner/degreaser. There is some stuff called steam clean, it's supposedly a very mild and safe cleaners.
The biggest problem I know of with high pressure steam cleaning is that any leaks you had before will now be worse because the high pressure will get into more nooks and crannies.

I have no leaks , and I have no engine covers 2.2L. I guess my engine is just dirty, no belly pan so all the grime from the road gets up in there and the spray from the dirty road water. Just want to clean it right, then get in there and detail.
Seems like a reasonable method to use something mild and lightly spray. I got that as a recommendation over steam cleaning as well via PM.
Thanks for the input.
