Actually as far as traction is concerned, on an AutoX with a 19mm rear sway bar...

my inner rear wheel always lifts. When it happens, you can really feel the effect of very little torque going to the rear differential as it is an open diff until seconds later when the (rear) ABS (aka EDL) may kick in - which never happens fast enough on the AutoX.

When you drive my car around a corner, you can really feel the car slow down, engine rpm up, and then the wheel starts to "chirp, chirp, chirp, scrub" then I slingshot out of the corner.

Last year before Sharon and Corey got any of their diff's replaced, we were talking about this problem quite a bit. My solution for the moment was to borrow someone's 16mm S4 sway bar, which still helped induced slight oversteer, but at least my rear inner wheel didn't loose total traction.

What was happening was when the rear wheel was in the air, basically Mu going all the way down close to zero total for the rear axle because even with an open diff, there is some friction. I only had roughly 60% of engine power to make it around the turn, 40% wasted on air. When the car started to stabilize and got some traction, I instantly had all the power back and it slingshots. Pretty fun (and funny), but very slow on the corners.

I know I need rear diff (lockers) but you can't do that in Street Touring. Well, now I can in STX.

On the race track, I don't entirely lift a wheel, so all is fine and dandy.

On tight AutoX's, the friction does drop down and rise up rapidly, depending on course setup and of course suspension. While my setup is far from good, it isn't bad or at least I can hang in there with the best of them ;)

So spending on something like this depends on application.

But as I pointed out to Corey on my post yesterday, your link made me take a closer look at the next generation Torsen (T3). If it happens, I will invest in that.

When they ask me why I like driving the A4 over our TT, I say worlds apart on the handling, and that's what I want. TT's pretty quick though, but we're starting to build parts for the handling department.

ooops, sorry for the long tread.
