Default More interesting things to be seen

Okay as parts slowly come in, the project is moving forwards. One step is to remove the manifolds from the sport quattro head (sniff sniff). After seeing the sport quattro head, you'll know why I'm crying.

Here we are removing the actual intake manifold from the head. There are 5 very long internal hex bolts which connect to the machined adapter plate which also serves as the water manifold. More on that later.

Intake manifold removed, we can see the machined aluminum plate which is necessary to use the Lehmann Intake manifold. It is tapers and highly machined with rounded triangular grooves for O-rings sealing the intake manifold to the plate. There 4 water fittings are pressed in. The water manifold itself is a nicely welded heliarc tapered aluminum tube. The threaded inserts are towards the firewall. The new tap for the turbo water feel is on the bottom with the aeroquip fitting.

Here is the bottom side of the Lehmann manifold. The orings fit into grooves on the aluminum plate.

Another shot of the aluminum plate with the water manifold removed. the grooves can be clearly seen here.

Here is the gasket. Looks like a custom or SportQ intake manifold gasket. Not one that Ken has seen before.

Here's a shot of the aluminum plate removed from the head. This is the piece necessary to make the Lehmann head work. Dual injectors are no problem with this plate and the lehmann casting.

Here's a bottom shot of the water manifold. The taper and the tig weld are clear to see. Nice design.

A shot inside the head itself.. What can be said about this. Our jaws dropped. The thing is smooth as glass inside. The amazing thing is the brass valve seats are polished smooth to the face of the intake path. How cool is that?

Now you all are going to call me crazy, but I am putting this head aside with the Block for now. What good is the head without the block and vice versa.

Thats pretty cool to see you tearing into it. Seems like a lot of "Bruno specific" stuff going on in there.
The valve guide mod is popular with some race enging builders. My brother in law did that to my 4kq head, while the machinist that did my WX block said he'd rather see them tapered instead of cut off like that.

So you've pulled the motor. Are you going to replace it with the 20v unit you just picked up?

That's what I'd be saying about that IM when I got my AAN installed.

just the block and head. We're using the current ECU and manifolds.
