Default Got alot done today. Prepping for rallycross.

I decided to clean some of the old stickers off the car and then wax it down. Painted the window trim black. I never liked the white trim look.

Got the wideband O2 wired in and talking to the ECU. Car holds a good steady idle and responds well to throttle.
<img src="http://www.bufkinengineering.com/sat02.JPG">

Cleaned up the engine bay and pressure tested everything.
<img src="http://www.bufkinengineering.com/sat03.JPG">

Hooked the leading arms back up.

Tomorrow I'm going to raise the suspension up 2" and put the skidplate and gravel wheels back on the car. Then it'll be ready for the test run. Im doing the structural engineering for the Harris Hill Road Track in San Marcos, so Im going to road tune the car there in one week.<ul><li><a href="http://harrishillroad.com/track.php">http://harrishillroad.com/track.php</a</li></ul>

Agree, something about the white frames on Brunos cars makes them look top heavy.

Default Couple questions

What are you using to hook up to the computer? I was told mine could be hooked up too, but never got any details. Supposedly some guy from Europe came over and tweaked it at some point, but again, no details. The car has two ECU's and I'd like for one to see what the different settings are.

I noticed a couple things on yours. It looks like you have the tarmac calipers? I also see you have the caster set pretty agressively too. How is the low speed steering? How far is it set back?

Is the suspension really V22? Seems a bit soft?

Default Re: Couple questions

Mark, I'm running 034 IIC ECU with coilpacks (thought you knew that). I pulled the Motronic out about 3 years ago and put in a 5 bar IIC controller. Found that to be too agressive so I put in a 2.5 bar contoller about 1 years ago before I started rebuilding my house. So right now, I have a base IIC setup using an AAN map. I have got the idle nailed and all off load revs from standing dialed it, but load tuning is what I'm doing this weekend. Being able to tune (not necessarily good at it, but able..) is the main reason why I went with IIC. Javad had the 5 bars setup pretty good with WOT conditions and the car was quick. But the 5 bar was really lacking in resolution on the low end. Hence the 2.5 bar setup which gives alot better part throttle response and idle response. I'm using an Innovate LC-1,XD-16 and LM-1 combination for wide band O2 monitoring and logging. The LC-1 also has a narrow band emulation which feeds the IIC computer.

The suspension is pretty much how I got the car, I've moved things up or down a bit, but for the most part It's plenty stiff. I can put my full weight on a corner and it barely moves in the range of 1/8 or 3/16". so the spring rate must be very high. I've had no issues with it at the track and the body roll is negligible.

The caster of the front is like the S1s have it setup with the top mount way back by the firewall. Look carefully at some S1 engine bays. Steering is excellent. More camber in corners, better straight line stability. Its a bit heavy at low speeds, but great at mid to high speeds.

Default I know about the caster

Mine is the same...

<img src="http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/gallery2/d/24296-3/PICT0025_Custom.jpg">

I was wondering about the steering at slow speeds and in tight. Mine is undriveable unless you've got some revs going. It's got an underdrive pump and with the caster as it is and everything else it just doesn't turn.

Mine is a bit stiffer I suspect, it doesn't move at all. Makes for a nice fast ride over the bumps, but a kidney wrecker at slow speeds.

No, I didn't know you had the 034. I guess I'm back to square one trying to look at the ECU.

Good luck with the testing and the rallyX!

Mark,
My steering has no issues at low speeds or revs. Even at idle, turning the steering wheel feels just a tad stiffer than my A8. Certainly not undrivable without revs. Check your hydraulic pump. Might be going out.

Default Nope

As they say, that's the way it is. It's the competition underdrive pump. In the notes from AudiSport they even mention it. There's little P/S power until you get the pump spinning. Plus with the drastic caster, it's a given that slow speed steering will be tough. Beyond that, the clutch with it being either on or off, doesn't allow you to slip it at all so that's a matter of fortitude. But possibly the worst is having no center diff and LS front and rear. It just wants to grab and not let go. Add it all up and you just find a place to pull it in and make sure you can drive it straight out.
