Default What is the purpose of the spot on a windscreen?

A few days ago I noticed that there's some spot on a windscreen of 2021 Q7. It is only visible if the sunlight reflects in some angles. From the inside it looks like some fine mesh, not connected to anything. Anybody knows what is that? Some kind of antenna, or something?

Where you are supposed to put your ez-pass (or toll transponder) so the signal can pass through the windshield... that is my best guess.

Sounds like transponder area it is. The rest of the windshield has an IR coating that blocks signals, according to this: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-.../#post25000744

That makes sense! Thank you for the explanation!
I only wonder why they didn't put that information into the manual.

Agree that should be in the manual. Lousy Audi technical writers.

Or better yet, silkscreen the spot's purpose onto the windshield, like "EZ Pass mounting area".

Likely also a spot for a radar detector to work!

Speaking of ezpass, I don’t like how they look stuck onto the glass so I ditched it and activated the ITM that’s built-in the SQ7. I don’t even care if it ends up costing me more in tolls, at leaat there’s no more clutter on my windshield haha. Did the same for my Allroad, which thankfully also has ITM. Went for a road trip from Chicago to NC to NY and back and it worked like a charm everywhere there were tolls.

I don't know why they have to be that ugly *** cream color. How about black, for crying out loud.
