1. Reliability of the 48v mild hybrid system. Particularly the alternator.
2. Faint crackle/popping noise in B&O premium sound system. Audi hasn’t come up with a solution and they will probably never do.

I've had a 2018 and now a 21 and 23 and have had almost no issues - OTA in the 21 finally fixed the MMI quirks, and one soft close door motor needed replacing. That's it so far since 2018. Granted...none of mine are high mileage cars. But I had no issues to speak of with my multiple X5's either. Or my S5, S6, and A6 Allroad. The TT V6 is a pretty stout engine if maintained. The supercharged versions are a bit more problematic and where you see issues - 2020 and before if i remember where the engine changed correctly. These have been in production so long they have worked out any issues. A benefit of buying a model later in its platform life.

Don't forget to join Audi Club North America for an additional discount of over 1k.

Thanks all.

Where the X5 comes short for the family is the second row (and the fact that it's only a 5 seater, when did X5 dropped the 3rd row option...). The leg room in the second row in X5 seem to come up short.

Glad to hear the improvements to current MMI. Frankly, if Q7, then we'll be using the wireless CarPlay (for me) and wireless AndroidAuto (for the wife). So, for infotaintment, the MMI will probably be used relatively lessER compared to CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

The engine reliability of 3.0 TFSI is probably the biggest concern, unknown for me, mainly because i've been so top heavy in owning the BMW inline 6's for so long and 1 V8 in e39.

Do you really have to drop the motor mounts and raise the motor just to change out the alternator (serpentine) belt in 3.0 TFSI ?

Of course, many clicks in the online needs to be taken with grain of salt, but the consensus in the internet is that owning an Audi is a "money pit", in general.

As for transmission, also very little i know about Audi transmission and quattro.

I do like the exterior of the Q7 and overall first impression is what has drawn me into Q7, primarily the premium feel.

It's the overall cost of ownership of Audi is i'm trying to get better grasp.

And whether i need to be purchasing, as a must, factory provided extended warranty as an option.

Interesting... Of course need to cross check with the local dealer for their participation and whether they'll actually let me have that 6% off MSRP.

Not in the least. YouTube is YouTube. I only watched a few minutes of this a while ago...and I don't watch any video that is basically a slideshow with voice over. Some of the points they make are stupid...there are levels of all the safety features controlled thru MMI, and yeah, duh...a watch band or other harder surfaces will scratch the piano black...as it will with any car with piano black surfaces in it. He didnt mention the quality of those surfaces is better than other brands.

3rd seat legroom is improved when you move the 2nd row seats forward. duh. Reliability issues are also not specified. What is he referring to: MMI, Engine, any of the 1000 other items that might go wrong? Crumbs in perf seats? MMI load times are pre2020. Super fast now.

I'll give him the back up camera gets blurry in wet weather. But don't they all?? And I'll also give him not a lot of deep storage in the front. Or anywhere...but there is a lot of room inside in general. And its a big car for a 4 cyl.

It is just a stupid uninformed video.

I concur with @kelisko - after my 19’ Q7 3.0 Prestige needs replacing in about 3 years I’m not going to be getting another Audi. The X5 gets better fuel economy, better reliability, not to mention it’s faster and looks better. 3 years of complimentary maintenance is also a nice benefit. I feel Audi has lost their way in the past 5 years or so - the MMI is lacking and the reliability especially has been declining

I've driven a 22/23 X5 extensively as it's what I've been given as a loaner each time one of our X7s is in for service. I would never say one is worlds better than the other. There are parts I prefer to the X5 than the Q7 and vice versa. You're really not getting a bad choice with either. You truly need to decide what are some must have features and go from there. Both are due for a full revamp in the next year or two.

I've had a 2018 Q7 (63k) for a couple years now after having a string of about 10 BMW's, I also do a majority of the work on my cars. I can say that so far Audi seems to have basically the same stupid issues as BMW does (water pump, motor mounts, etc). I don't think one is really any better than the other from my experience, just a bit different. I will say Parts/Service from the Audi dealer makes the BMW dealer feel cheap but reasonable prices can be found online for OE parts. I looked at the current gen X5 when I purchased the Q7 but felt the X5 was a tad too small while the X7 was larger than I was looking for.
