Q5 to Q7?
Q5 to Q7?Much to Gain, Much to Lose
Our Q5 is great, at 25K no problems but would like more room for the family. Grandkids are getting bigger, so am I.
Has anyone made the change and recreated it? Should I wait till the 2018's, are diesels coming back by then? Is it worth waiting for diesel or are diesels doomed in the US?

We went from '10 Q5 3.2 --> '14 SQ5 --> '17 Q7
Couldn't be happier. Wife and I both love the new Q7. It is light years ahead of both Q5 and SQ5 in terms of ride comfort, refinement, luxury, tech, utility, and even manages to match them in handling prowess at least for as aggressive as we are able to drive these cars on public roads. Heck, even when I get in the RS7, I feel like I'm slumming it compared to how nice the Q7 drives. Unless we develop some kind of reliability issue any time soon, I'd even go as far as saying this is probably the best Audi we've ever had of the seven.

With that said, if you do not need a new Q7 now, then I would wait for the 2018s. I would expect to see the diesels next year also. If there is not much new for the 2018 then you may be able to get the 2017 at a discount.

The biggest knock on the Q7 is the small 3rd row. If you are really wanting more room for the family, you may want to look at the larger SUVs.

Q5 3.0 TDI》X5 M50d 3.0 diesel》Q7 3.0 TDI etron. The Q7 is in a league of its own. We got 5 large suitcases in the boot, side by side, old cars had go be packed till the roof. A lot more space in 2nd row and Q7 has all the modern safety features my Q5 had N/A. Also driving the same exact route the consumption of the 3 cars were 7.4/8.9/7.2 l/100km, respectively . Q7 is also quietest and has a true air suspension compared to the others. Q7 also has all modern safety equipment available, many as standard. For its size it is also surprisingly agile. In the Q5 I miss that it fitted in regular parking spaces, in the X5 I will miss the splitting tailgate. Otherwise it beats them easily.
