Paint protection for new Q7?
#11
I consider most of the ceramic stuff to be snake oil, but love PPF - although it's not on my Q7. Here's an example of why you really want the good stuff if you get it. This is 3M satin matte film over my Cayman GT4.
Dumbass scraped me in a parking lot and I thought it was going to be really bad.
After peeling back the PPF. All good!

Can't say enough about Xpel: posted pictures some time ago on this forum how Xpel saved two of our cars from costly paint repairs, but not a third time. It's been 10 years, and the Xpel is still doing its job. (I searched for the posts, but posted several years ago... it seems my posts only go back to 2022; found this link but it doesn't work https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...960613) The Porsche dealer had Suntek applied to my wife's Macan S, but after only a few years it yellowed and does not hold up as well.
This film has saved us twice from repaint jobs: the front bumper of my A6 and the driver door of my daughter's Q3; my son's Camry was stolen and totaled on telephone pole.

I suggest Suntek Reaction for the PPF. Has excellent self healing capability and high gloss. I did the bumper, hood, headlights, mirrors and both front fenders on my SQ7. Then I applied Carpro CQuartz 3.0 to the entire car. It is easy to apply if you follow the directions or watch a few you tube videos. I've used it on all three cars and very happy with the result.

This thread made me curious about the costs, so I dig up my delivery invoice:
Feynlab Ceramic Coating was CDN$2,500
+ PPF on the hood, mirrors, door frames, trunk lip and fenders. CDN$1,450

Love love love Xpel. You don’t need to spend a ton and have the entire car covered. Do the bumper, hood, lights and mirror caps. That’s what usually takes the most beating. I know some people don’t care but chips and scratches drive me crazy. By the way, PPF does help prevent swirl marks

It looks pretty impressive to me. Question, are you going to replace the film? How much would it cost to replace the damaged piece, comparing to a paint repair?

Yes I had the driver who scraped me cover the cost of the film replacement. Luckily I was able to catch him before he left as he had no idea he even did it. Oblivious drivers.
