Sorry if this is turning into a Warranty conversation. But isn’t the factory and powertrain 5 years/50k miles? For those who don’t have a aftermarket warranty this shouldn’t be a problem correct? Also, do you know off hand if it will also affect recalls?

I doubt this is going to affect recalls. Recalls are mandatory due to lawyers, etc.
TSBs however are at the discretion of the dealer and only if they can replicate the issue.

I was driving to the office yesterday morning with a BMW 5 series that kept riding my bumper (at 70 mph) so I pressed on it and it took off and the 5'er just couldn't keep up. That's what I expected out of it, so I am thrilled! on top of that I can tell you that I am getting about an extra 1-2 MPG out of it. Understanding that this could be that the Q7 is tuned from the factory for 91 and now its optimized for 93 (even though I've only ever used 93)

Same boat, with the SQ5,
in Texas premium is always 93 (Exxon/Mobil) but what if I take it somewhere they don't have 93... only 91, how much Is it going to hurt to run 10 gallons of 91 until I find 93?

any other added functions with the tune?

I would not recommend it, but most likely no ill effects. If possible throw some octane booster in when you fill up.
What will end up happening is if the car starts knocking, the ECU will pull timing automatically. It's what your car would do on a bad batch of gas without a tune...

All of this sounds like a hell of a lot of trouble for a slightly faster SUV. Huge pass for me.

The age old saying is "you have to pay to play".
When you start messing with things it can be a slippery slope.
Just imagine if you had a legit race car and needed water/meth injection. 100+ octane leaded race gas, etc.

Apr plus have the powertrain warranty with it. It's a little more but worth the peace of mind
