My first and last Audi for sure. Will probably pick up a GLS or X7 in a couple of years
I don’t know about Mercedes but BMW is hit or miss as well with issues. My 2011 X5 diesel has had a ton of emissions problems with the SCR system.

We have a X7 and are very happy with it. We considered a GLS but they have ongoing issues with a variety of components. And that's to say nothing of the design (both exterior/interior), which didn't resonate with either me or my wife. The X7 has actually been reliable since it came to market in 2019. Ours replaced a Escalade ESV so we gave up space we no longer needed for a much nicer ride/environment. 54K and no real issues yet. You do need to be mindful of options, especially with wheels b/c all of the 22's are staggered and it's difficult to impossible to source all seasons for them. They're also $$$- over 500/tire.

I have heard that BMW X5 also has an oil consumption issue, but my mechanic said he doesn't see as much in his garage. We did consider the X5 as it is similar price range but the difference in trunk space is quite significant. I don't see a lot of X7 on the markets. As for run flat tires that are on all these vehicles, they do run $400-500/tire and you need to change all 4 at a time technically. Did you get any tire warranty from the dealership? I am looking at the cost and seeing if it is worth it.

It all depends on the engine with BMW. 8 cylinder? Better have deep pockets. 4 cylinder? Hit or miss. The best engines they make are all straight 6.

So I’ve been doing some digging and for those who have minor oil consumption issues, it might be worth it to try Motul 8100 Xcess 5W-40. A few have said it cut down their oil consumption to almost nothing from about a quart every 5k miles. Im going to try this on the next oil change and report back. Im using liquimoly right now some folks who have used it reported more oil burn compared to Motul. Lets find out

Looks like I posted in this thread about a year ago. My engine oil consumption got to about 1 quart every 400 miles, then the engine blew. So if you have high consumption with this model you really need to be careful. Mine didn't make it to 100k miles. Beware!

What exactly blew up? Rod bearing, piston through block? Bad rings destroying cylinder wall causing compression loss?

My oil consumption issue disappeared. Used to burn a quart every 5000 miles and now its completely gone ever since i went on a road trip. Still using liqui moly, but i have an oil change this Tuesday with Motul 8100. Since my 1/4 quart top up about 2500 miles ago, it hasn't dropped at all.

Are you sticking to 5K or 10K OCIs?

I had little oil burn with my first Liqui Moly oil run earlier this year until I went well past 5/6K miles. Then it seemed to accelerate on a much sharper curve. I'm currently running Mobil 1 with noticeably higher oil burn in the first 2/3K miles. I'm going to a 5K OCI and will go back to LiquiMoly next month and likely remain on the 5K OCI. I'm at 94K miles total and always ran the full 10K OCI before this oil change, mainly b/c I had purchased the Audi Care plan through 80K miles and the 10K annual service plans lined up nearly perfectly with my wife's driving habits. I've since put the Q7 into travel soccer duty and will be slapping 30-40K miles/year on it but using 5K OCI's
