Default V10 TDI, Audi screws us again...

I can't believe it... first, the Touareg came out as a VW, and only years later did VAG give us the Q7.

Now the Touareg comes with a V10 TDI for $70,000, but where's the love for the Q7???

This is incredible. VAG has its branding concepts all mixed up. Does anyone happen to know whether this beast of an engine will be making it into the Q7 for the U.S. market?

[Disclaimer: was in the market for a Q7 4.2, but now...]

Default OK, if Audi brought that stateside, my faith in brand-marketing would be restored :)

What a monster!! I wonder if it would be rated to tow a Baja 405?

Default But how many $120K Audi SUVs could the brand image support in US...

especially if it's not a " 50 state " diesel , keeping it out of giant trend setter markets like California ?
For that matter , how many V10 Touregs were sold here and were there big money losing factory " trunk money " hidden rebates needed to sell them ?

Default I'm not claiming that this is news to everyone else,

but it's news to me at least. Your factual assertion, however, strengthens my own point that Audi, as a luxury marque, is sadly lagging behind its own so-called bargain sibling in terms of providing the best offerings of everything to its customers.

Vorsprung durch Technik???

How about Vorsprung durch Technik von gestern?

Default I think the price point would have to be $85,000, to compete

with their own R8 and of course the Cayenne Turbo. I don't know about where you live, but I've seen a number of Cayenne Turbos (and a Turbo S every now and then), which would lead me to believe that Audi could have a share of the market if they undercut Porsche's pricing.

Default There is no way that the Q7 with a V12 TDi would be priced at $85k...

just not make any sense.
That car would have to be over $100k and it would have to meet ALL 50 States, which I doubt it would be.
Just a few hundreds of the Q7 V12 TDI will be produced world wide and if Audi cannot see getting their money back on it, they won't bring it.
The cost of certifying that particular vehicle for the U.S market would be ridiculous and that is why it will not come here.
V8 TDI makes more sense.

Default It's just a Q7 with a different engine option.

You don't need to certify each trim variant- just a platform, so that cost is already sank.

BlueTec is cleared in all states, including California.

A 20K premium for a V12TDI diesel engine over 4.2FSI in an otherwise identical vehicle? Audi will be raking in margin dollars on every sale.

The only thing stopping Audi from offering Q7 V12TDI in the US is Audi - 'cause I am absolutely sure they would sell each and every limited run monstrosity they do decide to bring over.

Default I like the TDI

I got my V10 Touareg on June 04(I got 04, 05 Passats TDIs, E320 CDI too), and I liked the car in the beginning. Yet, by owning the V10 TDI, I experiencing some technical design imperfections; the V10 engine is too heavy, the under steering is for sure, the vehicle is too much weight. On the other hand, this is a solid car. My biggest dislike this car was the oil tank filler opening is too small then, for regular's diesel nuzzle to get in. And it took a few days for the dealer just to fix the clock incorrect time keeping; the dealership could never fix the rear differential lock up glitch. I will surely get the Q7 or A8 TDI in V8 if both cars come to this side in U. S., but the V12 has to be aluminum block like the V8. The car will be too heavy if the V12 is used the iron block like the V10. I did test drive the 07 V8 TDI in Europe, by comparing the 07 A8 and S8 I got; the heavy nose of the TDI in the A8 form easily felt, especially by comparing the S8. My wish is the TDI in V8 or V12 in aluminum form should be installed in the next generation shorter over hang plat form, in such way, the TDI in A8 or Q7 will be the dream cars.
