Tow Hitch Wiring
Hello,
I have a 2011 Q7 without the factory hitch. Over the weekend I installed a Curt tow hitch so we could easily transport a bike rack for the family. There will be times where I'll be towing a small utility trailer and will need to get the light harness connected.
When putting the hitch on, I was mistaken in thinking the vehicle actually had some sort of electrical light harness near the area of the hitch. IN my mind, I was thinking all that was needed was for me to purchase the 7 pin factory connector plug. Now that I've torn into it, I see that I need an actual harness.
Do I need to order THIS harness?
AND Do I need to purchase the BOX the harness is connects to? See image in link above.

You will also need the 7-pin connector referenced in the below thread:

I need a wiring diagram, I bought a used tow bar and Module from junk yard and the idiots cut the harness at the module and at the tow bar connector, so I have each end , I'm just trying to figure out what all the wires go to. I want to make another harness. I also need the plug end on the tow bar, the one I have didn't come with it. it comes in the kit but must be when you buy the car with the tow kit it doesn't come with it . so I need the part number for that. I don't like the metal one, I'll take plastic. I haven't worked real hard at it yet , but using this guide I think I can figure it out as long as I have the ends.
White - Ground - 10 gauge
Blue - Electric Brake - 12 gauge
Green - Tail, License and Running Lights - 14 gauge
Black - Battery Charge - 10 gauge
Red - Stop and Left-Hand Turn Signal - 14 gauge
Brown - Stop and Right-Hand Turn Signal - 14 gauge
Yellow - Auxiliary Circuit - 14 gauge

There is also a 2 pin conn from the receiver that gets connected to its mate in the spare tire area. any know what this is for ?? and what color the wires are so I can make one??
might be the brake, and a ground wire???

I posted these in another thread but here are the pins for the 2 pin connector.
part number: 000 979 225 = 3-7212 (for 2.5mm˛ wire ~~14 gauge)
part number : 1.0mm˛ = 000 979 133, smaller wire, I used the 14 gauge because that was the wire in my harness. dealer has these , expensive for what you get but worked.
