Default Q7 vs A8

I have a d3 a8 and was considering trading it for a new q7.
Just want some of your thoughts on what to do.

Can you be more specific? Ther than selling or trading in your a8 and buying new or used or leasing a Q7, I am not sure what your question is.

I might trade my 2008 a8l for a 2011 q7 3.0 tdi and would be able to buy outright but would like opinions on pros and cons of both keeping and trading

depends on what you plan on doing with the q7? your comparing pretty much 2 different cars on opposite ends.

a luxury sedan vs a 7 seater family hauler.

If you have a big family and tow get a q7

if you just like to drive keep the a8

I just had a 2012 A8L for a loaner for a number of days and 800 miles - its a great ride. If I did not have 3 kids and need to tow a boat I would trade for the A8L. So it just depends on lifestyle needs. Versus a D3 they are equally nice inside. The D4 was amazing with its seat massagers etc.

I only carry 3 kids in the Q occasionally, but I love the overall utility. My Q with S-line, air suspension and 21s drives as well as a D3 A8L. Its a great car. Against a A D2 A8L I would keep my Q7.

My impression is that the Q7 pulls a lot of mechanical bits from the A6, but pulls some of the interior bits from the A8 (D3), as Misplacedyankee said. For example, the Q7 has had available 4-zone climate control for quite a while, whereas the A6 didn't until recently if I remember correctly. The A8 comes standard with adaptive air suspension, right? On the Q7, it's optional.

They are different vehicles, but the Q7 definitely manages to feel a lot smaller than it actually is and drives closer to an A8 than you'd think given dimensions and weight. The A8 is technically longer than a Q7, by the way, whether SWB or LWB.

The Q7 is virtually a longer Touareg mechanically - I believe much of the floorpan is the same and the running gear is almost identical and of course, mostly shared with the Cayenne as well.

Interior uses a lot of components taken from the A6 except seats which are unique to the Q7.
