Prices - Cayenne vs. Q7
Most of you are probably already well aware of this, but the Cayenne is outrageously expensive compared to the Q7. For kicks I went to the Porsche website today to price out a V6 Cayenne comparable to our V6 Q7 (same basic engine if you don't already know). It was $12K more!!! Some of the highlights were $2240 for the 4 zone climate control, vs $950 for the same system on a Q7. Or how about $3900 for the Panorama sunroof, vs. $1850 on the Q. God bless'em if they can get it (and apparently they do).
It's no wonder Porsche is the most profitable automaker on the planet!!!

I've heard of extremely large discounts on it.
But it's always been, 'co-worker of a buddy of mine' stuff. Never first hand.
I never even considered one because I wouldn't want to have to deal with Porsche service.

Local dealer was willing to deal at 10K off sticker
I've been helping a friend shop for an SUV with GVWR > 6000 lbs. (tax benefit still in effect, apparently). Three weeks ago, the local dealer had two 06 Cayenne S (S's?), both with the titanium package: nav, two-tone interior, titanium wheels, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, titanium trim and roof rails. They were willing to take 10K under the $67K sticker on these new SUVs.
From what I understand, there will not be any 07s, but the 08s will be released early - this fall. Kind of like when BMW didn't do any 96 5-series cars (E34 to E39 transition), just 95s and 97s.
Didn't drive it, but from my passenger's vantage point, I thought the Q had a much better interior, both in terms of materials and layout. But YMMV.

2008 Cayenne S model trumps 2006 Cayenne S model...
Dealers are willing to take big hits off the sticker for the 2006s still on their lot due to the upcoming redesign for the 2008 Cayenne. Not only is the front end being "freshened" to get rid of the fried-egg headlight look and keep pace with the 997 and Boxster, but the Cayenne S model's V8 is getting a bump to 385 hp.
Those two things alone are quickly making the 2006 Cayenne S obsolete and dealers are trying to get them off the lots as fast as possible.
So, if you don't mind "last year's look" and are satisfied with less than 385 hp, now is the time to look for a 2006 S.
